Setting My Sights for a Saturday Run
After weeks of physical therapy I have been feeling almost back to normal and my foot numbness has been all but non-existent the last few weeks. Saturday was going to be my big day! I was going to squeeze a few short run intervals into my walk, but my back had other plans. I’m pretty sure it all started on Friday afternoon when I lay down on our too-soft sofa for a quick nap. I knew better, but thought I’d be fine since I’ve been working so hard to make my core stronger. Long story short, I woke up Saturday with pain in my back making it nearly impossible to stand up straight. Luckily it seems to have been just a temporary setback and thanks to some Advil I’m feeling much better today.
Not to worry though, I thoroughly wasted most of Saturday in a full-fledged pity party and hardly got anything accomplished. I suppose we all need one of those days occasionally. This morning I brushed myself off, hopped on my stationary bike for a short and easy ride to work out the kinks and made sure I got off the bike before I overdid it.
Easter, CoronaVirus Pandemic Style
Just for fun and since I wasn’t able to workout, I put together a corona virus pandemic Easter basket on Saturday morning. What we’ll do for a few laughs on Instagram. 😉
Sunday morning we watched Easter mass in our basement on Facebook Live. Since Virginia’s “shutdown” began, our church has offered mass on Sunday via FB Live. Normally, I stand at our kitchen window with my laptop in front of me, but today I chose to sit on my bike and pedal easily as I watched. I hope that doesn’t seem irreverent, but under today’s circumstances I don’t think there are any rules.
April Walks and Flowers
On both Tuesday and Thursday mornings I headed out early for 4-mile walks and tried to keep my pace a little faster than I had been. On my last lap on Tuesday, I stopped several times to take pictures of the flowers in our neighborhood which seems to be exploding with spring colors!
Pink Dogwoods…
White apple blossoms…
Lavender Phlox…
Grape Hyacinths…
Virtual Training
Once of my favorite things about training my clients virtually is getting to see their animal friends. This cute pup is Tori who loves walking back and forth under her mom whenever she’s doing modified planks on the chair. Here Tori had decided to sit and rest under her mom!
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
0 x 0 miles
Still no running, but I had planned to try a few running intervals during a walk this past week. See my first paragraph for why this didn’t happen…
Walking
4 x 1 to 4 miles outside
This past week I focused on picking up my pace when walking (with the exception of the lap when I took lots of pictures of flowers).
Biking
0 x 0 miles
Walking more left less time for riding.
Strength Training
3 x 1 hour
3 x 30 minutes of PT homework
What can I say, I’m almost as partial to strength training as I am to running!
Yoga
0 x 0 minutes
Nope, didn’t happen…
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – A Virtual Meetup and Getting Back into Gardening
- Wednesday – When the DNA Results Don’t Match the Hashtags
- Friday – My Running Story, the Condensed Version
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…
Questions:
- • What’s your favorite spring flower?
- • If you celebrate Easter, how was today different than most years?
- • Did you run in a virtual race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but those of the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
I’m so sorry to hear that your back flared up again. I hope a couple days of rest will calm it down and you’ll be able to run! Fingers crossed.
Thanks, Wendy! It’s feeling quite a bit better and I’m hoping it flared up as a result of me sitting on a Swiss ball without any back support during my virtual sessions with clients last week and then was exacerbated by napping on the soft sofa. I’ve been moving around a lot this week which is what it likes best.
My back has been cranky recently…and I think it’s from all the extra NetFlix time on the couch. Consequently, there have been many a night when I doze off (still on that couch) for an hour or longer. It’s just so comfy at the time! Your flower pics have been such a bright spot this week! I”d have to say my favorite spring flowers are the Lilies of the Valley….so fragrant and oh-so-pretty 😉 Like you, we’ve been doing the live stream church services for the past four (or 5?) weeks.
I think our backs are used to our never-ending moving and get cranky when we sit too much!
I am so thankful that our church is live streaming mass each week.
Ugh. I injuries suck. At least you’re not missing any races. Hope you feel better soon.
I have a virtual half next weekend.
Can’t wait to do some real racing. June July who knows when?
As the queen of racing, you must be missing your races so much! Have as much fun as you can at your virtual half this weekend.
All of those flowers are so pretty! Its such a nice time of year to get outside. Im sorry about the setback with your back. Hopefully you can try some running intervals soon!
Thanks, Lisa! I’m hoping so as well!
Oh no, I’m so sorry about your back flare! Just know that all that hard work is still paying off.
LOL at your Pandemic Easter basket. And thank you for sharing all the flowers! Obviously we’re behind you guys, we barely get spring up here unfortunately, but things are greening up and the bulbs are coming up & that always makes me happy.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with pedaling while attending church. 🙂
Thanks, Judy! I’m keeping up with my PT homework because I do know that it’s helping in the big picture. My back is feeling quite a bit better already and I have been treating it by not sitting any more than absolutely necessary this week. 🙂
Bummer on your back flaring up again. I swear I feel like one thing heals and then I wake up to something else. My back was bothering me this week too. We don’t need that right now! Hope you feel better this week.Enjoy all the beautiful flowers out there
Thanks, Deborah!
What gorgeous flowers! I wish we had some of those varieties here, but we are too far south. My hydrangea is coming back, though, so there’s that.
I was going to do something like that for little man’s Easter basket, but I think he would have cried. He’s been a trooper about everything but everyone has a limit, you know? It’s already been so much of a strain. As it was, he said it didn’t feel like Easter at all 🙁
The flowers are such a bright spot for me during these trying times. I’m glad they made you smile as well! Poor Little Man – this has to be so hard on the children who also have had their lives upended, but don’t necessarily have the skills yet to deal with it.
Sorry to hear about your back! At least you were still able to get in some nice walks. Those flowers are so beautiful! We didn’t have much of an Easter this year, sadly. We don’t usually go all out but I didn’t even have the energy to make a special dinner or get any treats…I’ll have to make up for it next year!

Thanks, Janelle! Same here; we’re being so careful about not going to the store, etc. that it was just hard for me to plan anything special for dinner. We ended up ordering curb-side pickup from a favorite restaurant.
I cannot think of a more fitting tribute to Easter Mass than to use the body that God gave you while you worship. The running will come, smart runners listen to their bodies instead of watching the calendar. Thanks for all of the spring flowers on IG, apart from a few daffodills we don’t have much of that around here.

Thanks, I like your perspective!
I have never posted so many pictures of flowers blooming as I have this spring, but I don’t think we’ve ever needed the distraction as much as this year. I’m glad they bring a smile to your face.
Those are pretty flowers in your neighborhood! What a bummer about your back. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, Zenaida! The flowers have been extra pretty this spring!
Dang it, sorry about your back! I hope it’s improving. I feel like I keep sliding back in my progress, so frustrating!! Such pretty flowers in your area! I did see the first dandelion the other day, so for sure Spring will be here to stay soon 🙂 My cat loves when I do planks. She just needs to be right there in the action!!

Thanks, Lisa, my back is feeling better each day. And yes, I agree that it’s frustrating to keep sliding backwards in my quest to recover from my injury. Hang in there – we’ve got this! 😉
Your flowers are gorgeous – love the dogwoods!
Sorry to hear you felt pain again, but hope it passed
A non-running blog I read just did a post on all the animal coworkers. Such a fun escape.
Love the easter basket humor. We tried to FT with my mom & her husband and my brother/SIL and the kids, but we had to do google sine group FT wasn’t working. We’re not religious, but it was weird not to have dinner

Thank! That’s my goal, to provide a nice distraction with pretty flower pictures on both my blog and IG.
Absolutely. Has nice side effect of distracting ourselves too
