Last Sunday morning I mentioned that Bill and I were getting ready for a biking date with Deborah and Courtney. Deborah had reached out to me about riding together after seeing a picture on Instagram that I had posted of the LOVE sculpture in Leesburg, VA.
Deborah drove to our house and the three of us hopped on our neighborhood trail and rode the 1.5 miles to the W&OD Trail where Courtney was waiting for us. Courtney wanted to ride farther and had started in Reston and ridden to where we would be getting on the W&OD.
All together, we rode to the far side of Leesburg. At that point, Bill continued on to Purcellville and we turned to ride back to the sculpture.
Once we’d gotten to the Leesburg Public Arts LOVE sculpture we took pictures before heading into Portside Coffee for muffins, scones, and water. It was great to get to know Deborah and Courtney better. I’d only met Deborah once at the For The Love Of It 10K and subsequent coffee date, and this was the first time I’d had the opportunity to meet Courtney.
Remember last week when I talked about Black Kitty stalking me on my runs? On Monday morning I saw him out again, this time with his human and two dog brothers. I asked my neighbor what the kitty’s name is and learned that it’s Cosmos. Anyway, it was the cutest thing, my neighbor was walking his two small dogs on their leashes and Cosmos was about three steps behind. He followed them all the way around our circle which is a half mile. Since I was running in the opposite direction, I saw them a few times. I regret not taking a picture, but didn’t want to appear creepy. 😉 Instead, here’s a different picture from last week’s encounter.
I continued on with my run and eventually ventured out onto the parkway. It was 67° and humid and as the sun started to rise (I’d started my run at 5:15 AM), I could see thunderheads (cumulonimbus clouds) forming, something I don’t remember ever seeing at sunrise. It was really quite an interesting sunrise, but I had to turn and head inside to get ready for work so I missed the complete show.
I ran a couple hours later than usual on Wednesday and was treated to delightful weather following the wake of storms that moved through on Tuesday afternoon and evening. I ran on the trails behind our house and even took a detour to run along the lake.
On Friday, we drove to the farm for our annual family reunion on Friday evening and all day yesterday. It’s so nice to see my aunts, uncles, and cousins on my mom’s side of the family each summer. Bill drove home today, but I’m staying with my mom for the week. 😎
While at the family reunion, I talked to one of my cousins about running his first marathon (Baltimore) last fall. He lost about 50 pounds in the process and is completely hooked! He and I made plans to possibly meet in Harper’s Ferry / Shepherdstown in October for the Freedom’s Run marathon for my cousin, half for me.
I didn’t even think to ask my cousin if he planned to run on Saturday morning. I wish I had; instead, while he was running seven miles, I caught up on some sleep and didn’t get up until 7:30. It would have been fun to have a running partner while visting family!
And finally, about my blog… If you’re reading from a mobile phone or tablet you may not see much of a difference, but if you’re reading from a laptop or desktop, you were probably quite surprised when my site loaded. Last night I updated my theme and boom, things went haywire and turned into a hot mess as soon as it finished updating. This happened once before about four years ago, and it took me six months to finally get it straightened out when Evolve (my theme of choice) eventually fixed the bug in their software. That time, I switched to a different theme in the interim; but this time, I may take this as a sign to finally update my theme to a custom one I’ve been thinking about. Of course, this happens while I’m at my mom’s house where the internet is slower and everything takes longer…
Before the update…

I’m linking up with Holly at HoHo Runs and Wendy from Taking The Long Way Home for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
So glad we had a chance to get together last weekend! Need to do it more often
Yes, that sounds like a plan!
My husband’s family does family reunions every other year. I didn’t make it to the last one but we went 3 years ago. They’re a lot of fun and involve camping and hanging out and a good time! A few years ago, I even got to go for a run around the campground with one of my husband’s cousins – he was just getting into it and eventually ran his first marathon out in Kansas (Wichita, I think). My family doesn’t really do reunions. We used to (sort of) when my grandmother still lived in Michigan and my grandfather was still alive. I don’t know why we don’t. Sounds like you had a great time at yours! And that’s cool that you got to meet up with Deborah for a ride!
Your husband’s family reunion sounds fun and with the camping, you’re together the whole time! And yes, Deborah, Courtney, and I had a great time on our ride!
I did wonder about your blog. At least it’s theme issues and not hacking. I had so much fun meeting you and riding with you last weekend – let’s do it again!
Luckily, around 9 or 10 PM on Sunday evening whatever was wrong with the update got fixed and for the most part, my blog was back to normal. 🙂
And yes, absolutely let’s ride together again soon!
That’s so cool that you were able to meet both Deborah and Coco for a ride! Deborah was telling me a little bit about it when I saw her this weekend.
Yes, it was great meeting both Deborah and Coco! It sounds like you all had so much fun in Chicago, too!
I love when I get together with other bloggers. In fact, I met up with Megan from Meg go run this past week. I bet your bike ride was fun!
How fun! I don’t think I follow Meg, I’ll have to find her.
Sounds like a fun blogger meet-up on the bike! Love the kitty escapades too, Cosmos sounds like a pretty cool cat 🙂
It was a fun meet-up! Cosmos was adorable following his family around the block. 🙂
Bloggers on bikes sounds like a fun day! We used to be a family of runners (my hubs and three step children) but we have all gone on breaks for various injuries -> typical runner problems right?
Awww, bummer that you are all side-lined with a variety of runner’s injuries. 🙁
You live in such a beautiful area of the country. I would love to have an excuse to come back down there. The Harper’s Ferry half is very appealing, but I am doing Marine Corps this year, so I don’t know how well it would fit in with that.
Please let me know if you do come back down my way for a race so we can meet up!
Your blog looks basically the same to me! Whew!
Looks like you had your own blogger meet up! How fun!! I’m hoping to make a trip out to DC next spring. Stay tuned!
Ohhh, DC in the spring? Please keep me posted!
Late on Sunday evening my blog miraculously reset back to almost like it was before the update. At that point, I made a few minor changes and I’m good to go. 😎
The only difference I really noticed is the blue on pink menu header is kind of unreadable but as that’s personal thing I thought it was a color palette that worked for you.
Glad you had a fun bikeup/reunion. Cosmos is so cute!
Luckily they fixed the bug in the update by Sunday evening, so by the time you saw my blog it was almost back to normal. I couldn’t get the blue menu titles changed back to white like they were before so I changed the pink background to white. I think it looks cleaner anyway!
Yes! Cleaner and super easy to read
Cool, I’m glad you like it!
How fun to have that bike ride with Deborah and Coco!
It was a blast, and how fun that you got to attend the epic blogger meet-up in Chicago!
Cosmos sounds like he has a lot of character!! I love that you rode with Deborah and Coco – I love their blogs too! The blogging world really does bring people together and how awesome when you actually meet the person behind the blog!
One of my favorite things about blogging is meeting people with such similar interests. Have you had the opportunity to meet any bloggers there in Botswana?
Haven’t found any runner bloggers in Botswana yet! Starting to wonder if I’m the only one I’ll keep hunting.
The blog looks great!
We have a kitten that would follow us a little bit, but he has since moved to a new home, so I don’t get to see him much anymore.
My brother-in-law is the only one who runs. I have an uncle and two cousins who are cyclists, and little man will run, but doesn’t voluntarily opt to do it. It’s a bit lonely for me, sometimes, but it’s ok.
Thanks, the theme update bugs got fixed late on Sunday and with a few tweaks I got it back to better than before. 🙂
Awww, I hope the little kitten has found a nice home. My mom has a stray cat stop in and steal her cats’ food on occasion. Unfortunately, he also beats her cats up when he stops by… 🙁
The biker meet-up was an excellent idea! How many miles did you ride together? You had a coffee date too! I wish I lived closer. 😉 It is very rare that either of our families do a reunion; maybe 3-4 in 30+ years. Thanks for linking!
We rode 22 miles together and had so much fun! I loved seeing pictures from your epic blogger meet-up in Chicago this past weekend – sounds like you had a lot of fun!
[…] Last Sunday I mentioned that I was visiting my mom and would be staying for the week. We had a fantastic time just being together and I was happy to be able to help her with some chores around the house and yard. It was easy to get my runs in because I love running along the scenic countryside, and of course, I made sure to foam roll and do some yoga after all of my runs. Strength training; on the other hand, was put on hold and will be resumed again tomorrow. […]
