Mother’s Day, Lazy Day
The week started with a lazy and relaxing Mother’s Day. Other than squeezing in a client who would otherwise miss one of her sessions due to travel, I didn’t do a whole lot of anything as I enjoyed a day of rest and relaxation. Our son Daniel and granddog Pablo came over to visit and we had a late lunch/early dinner of carryout while watching The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young. Daniel had already seen the documentary, but indulged me by watching it again. After Daniel and Pablo went home, Bill and I binge watched Dead to Me. When my friend texted to say she’d just finished watching the show, she described it as a “highly entertaining, addicting dark comedy,” and she was spot on.
A Typical Work Day
Contrast my lazy Mother’s Day to a typical work day… Three days a week I see my first client at 6 AM, the other days, 7:30 AM. If my running day and 6 AM first session coincide, I’m up by 4:15 to be out the door running by 4:45 so after my run I’ll have time to stretch, foam roll, spritz with a mist that smells better than my sweaty self, and change into dry clothes before my client arrives. My 6 AM client is followed by additional clients until about noon or 2 PM and then I have a break until my late afternoon client appointments begin. Usually, I wrap up my day by 6:30 PM at the latest.
Two Trips to DC in One Day
I mention my Mother’s Day versus a typical work day, because I really appreciate weekends when I’m not driven by my calendar. Saturday was incredibly fun, but anything but a laid back day.
We were up by 4:30 AM to get ready to drive to the Theodore Roosevelt Island parking lot to meet a few of our Cruiser friends for the DC Bike Ride. From the parking lot, we rode over Memorial Bridge to the start of the ride. We had a blast and I can’t wait to share more about it in my recap.
After the bike ride and enjoying the post-ride festivities, we met our son Daniel and his girlfriend Jess (and of course Pablo) for lunch at Fire Works Pizza. It was a gorgeous day and since we opted to eat outside, we were able to bring Pablo with us.
After lunch, we stopped by the Green Lizard Cycling for a few biking necessities and then rushed home so we could shower and get ready for going back into DC for the Nationals versus Cubs game. It was a gorgeous night for a game and a Nats win! We had fantastic seats just behind the Nats dugout and enjoyed spending the evening with our friends Karen and Ed.
It was after midnight by the time we got home and we collapsed into bed, exhausted!
Time to Stalk the Weather for Sunday’s Annual Barbecue
Simply because the last couple of weeks I’ve talked about stalking the weather, I’ll mention that I’m at it once again, but this time not for a race or bike ride. Next Sunday is our Annual Summer Kickoff Barbecue, and we’ve had crappy weather the last two years. Here’s hoping the weather forecast improves as the week goes on…
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
Monday’s run just happened to be in the late afternoon and on my treadmill because my stomach was feeling a little off and I didn’t want to chance an emergency pit stop. I’m not sure what made the run more miserable, the fact that I ran in the late afternoon or that I ran on my treadmill…
Wednesday and Thursday’s run were both at 5 AM and I felt so much better. With both runs, in fact, my average pace was over a minute per mile faster than Monday’s run.
Biking
With parking on the Virginia side of the Potomac and riding over to DC and back from the DC Bike Ride, we extended our ride to 27 miles. It’s worth noting that the 20-mile ride showed up as only 18.51 miles on my Garmin (affiliate link).
Strength Training
Three workouts out of my goal of three completed!
Yoga
I’ve added Yoga for Running (affiliate link) back into my routine and need to start doing Yoga for Cycling (affiliate link) now that I’m spending more time in the saddle. Both are less than ten minutes so there’s no excuse not to fit them in!
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Starting the Week with a Rainy Bike Tour and Ending it Reunited with my Running Girls
- Wednesday – Becoming a Trumpet Head: Leading up to our Bike NY Five Boro Bike Tour
Coming up this week, I’m really hoping to finish the second part of my recap of our Five Boro Bike Tour. I need to get it finished so I can start working on the DC Bike Ride recap.
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Have you watched either the Barkley Marathons documentary or Dead to Me?
- How do you fit your workouts into your work day?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
What a fun filled week! I love eating at places where Matilda (my dog) can join, though even at 10 years old, she isn’t always the best behaved….she’ll sneak food at any chance she can get 🙂
Happy Mother’s Day to you and glad you had a great day celebrating! Also very interesting to hear what your regular workdays are like and how early you run- impressive!
That Matilda is a smart girl! 😉
I’ve become very much of a morning person in the last few years and I like it!
hey, great week! Also I can’t believe you went into DC twice in one day! How far away are you actually?
We have watched the Barkley marathon documentary. Nutso! And Dead to Me looks interesting; I mentioned to Ron that more than one person has recommended it now so it’s on our list. Only problem (“Problem”) is, we don’t have a lot of time to watch TV. And we are nearing the end of Season one of Queen of the South, so I don’t want to start something new just yet. We also dabbled a bit in The Good Place a bit, which I found quite funny.
I did not race this weekend – but I did run 🙂 it’s a start!
We live about 30 miles west of the district, but with traffic… It wasn’t bad in the morning, but getting to and from the game was terrible.
WE either don’t watch TV, watch college football, or binge watch a series. LOL
First of all, Dead to Me is AMAZING!! Now I need season 2 pronto! Second, although super busy, what an amazing weekend in DC!! So many great pictures and that game looks like it was perfection. Looking forward to the recap on the ride 🙂

Did you hear that it’s not definite that there will be a season 2 of Dead to Me? It’s so popular that I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t. Perhaps it’s a ploy to keep everyone talking about it!
We had such great weather this weekend! I avoided the DC Ride after hearing not-so-great things about it last year. What I’ve herd so far is that it was better this year — looking forward to your thoughts! I think it’s going to be really nice this weekend!

I hadn’t heard anything either way about the DC Bike Ride, so I went into it without any particular expectations. We enjoyed it, but I think it was probably a one and done ride unless someone talks me into riding with them.
I hope you’re right about the weekend weather. The forecast is looking better!
Oh man, I was so bummed to see the Cubs lose to the Nats! They’ve been playing so well…
Looking forward to hearing more about that DC ride!

The Cubs won the night before and the night after, if that makes you feel any better. Just don’t dwell on how bad we are this year or that will really make you feel bad!
Like you, I rise & shine early to get most of my workouts done before heading to work. There are a few times, though (depending on the weather, state of fatigue, etc) when I’ll do the workout later in the day or evening. I still prefer the early morning routine, though 😉 Thanks for linking with us 😉
There’s nothing like bringing up the sun! 😀
I finally got some clip-in shoes for my bike. I’m going to feel like a real cyclist now 🙂 Boo on the Garmin showing up as 18.5 miles!

Yay for adding to your biking gear and feeling like a real cyclist!
We watched the Barkley Marathons documentary a while ago when someone had mentioned it. It even entertained Mr. Judy (who is not a runner). Thanks for the Dead to Me recommendation — we’ll be looking for some series soon now that Network tv is winding up. Always have a hard time finding something that appeals to both of us.
Hope you have good weather for the BBQ! The first official trail run of our local club’s trail run series is tomorrow. Severe thunderstorms predicted, of course. They actually do have some trail runs on Mondays earlier in the spring, but I’m already tied up for that time.
Oh no, I hope the storms either don’t show up or move out before your run starts. If you watch Dead to Me, let me know what you think.
Here’s hoping the weather is nice for your barbecue this weekend! Your work days sound insane! I can’t imagine how I would ever keep up with you with that schedule. I would be crazy (or confined to my bed) within a week!

It’s funny because I don’t think my schedule is that bad because I have a few hours free in the middle of the day, most days. I should nap, but do I? Ha!
I’m not really going to take the weather forecast seriously until Saturday, but right not it’s calling for 88° and mostly sunny.
I have watched the Barkley marathon documentary those people are nuts!! I cannot even imagine! I don’t think anyone would call you lazy!
I’m not lazy, but I can chill on with the best of them (occasionally). 😉
