Raise your hand if you think 64° with low humidity is pretty close to perfect running weather for July. Surprisingly, the mid-Atlantic’s triple H’s (hazy, hot, and humid) stayed at bay this week. It got plenty hot during the days – mid-90’s – but cooled off to September worthy temperatures overnight.
Tuesday’s run – 5 miles at 5:30 AM with temps at 64° and low humidity
Tuesday afternoon I had an appointment with Dr. Wong, my sports medicine chiropractor. I’ve had some occasional numbness and tingling in my right foot and leg since sitting so much driving from state to state during our trip our west in early June; and a little aggravation in my right SI joint. He worked his magic and gave me some homework – add foam rolling to the outer side of my hips (an area I didn’t roll) and stretching out my left hip flexor a bit more. Both of which I’ve since been doing like a boss!
Thursday’s run – 5 miles at 5:15 AM and again, it was 64° with low humidity
Meet Black Kitty; at least that’s what I call him. Black Kitty lives in my neighborhood and loves to watch me run in the mornings. You may remember the fuzzy picture I posted of him back in the winter when he sat perfectly still next to a mailbox watching me run lap after lap for over an hour and a half while I circled my neighborhood running ten miles. With eyes glowing in the light from my headlamp, he gave me the creeps because with every lap I suspected he might leap onto me in attack! On Thursday morning he wanted attention. Some days he’s aloof, some days he stalks, and some days he just wants to be my best friend. Typical cat… 😉
Thursday’s bike ride – 21 miles at 6 PM with the temp around 85° and somewhat humid
Saturday’s run – 6.25 miles at 8 AM with the temperature at 70° and a little humid when I started, 75° by the time I finished
This morning, Bill and I have a date with Deborah and hopefully Courtney for a bike ride to Leesburg. You can check out pictures later today on Instagram, but you’ll have to wait until next week’s recap to read more about our adventure!
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Let’s Brush Over My Workouts And Talk About Our Visit To Vanish Farmwoods Brewery
- Wednesday – 2018 Firecracker 5K Race Recap
Looking ahead to this coming week…
- Tuesday – a guide for learning to pee standing up
- Thursday – throwback recap of the 1997 Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest 8K
- Friday – a recap on our hike in Deer Valley, Utah
In addition to the exercise I mentioned above, here’s a complete run-down of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Do you consistently see any person or animal when you’re out running or walking?
- How’s the weather been where you live?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s a wrap… Have a great week!

When I used to run on the bike path behind my house, I would see the same older gentleman walking every day. He always walked with a big stick, and I wondered if he was scared of dogs. Every day, I said “Hi” to him, and every day, he said nothing in return. One summer, I made it my mission to get him to say “Hello” to me when we crossed paths. I smiled. I made small talk. I waved. Nothing. One day, I brought my dog Benji along with me. When the man saw me, he grinned from ear to ear and asked if he could pet Benji. Of course, I said “Yes”. From that day on, we were the best of friends. Now, he remembers my name and even sometimes brings a treat along for Benji! Winning!!! 🙂
Awww, I love that story. Thank you for sharing!
The overnight temperatures were the best – love it when I can turn off the AC. And Thursday’s office run was so much less humid than last week, glorious. I wish it had lasted. Hope your ride was fun. Off to find you on IG as I don’t think I follow you
Evening runs can be brutal in the kind of heat and humidity we have. So glad you had a bit of a break on Thursday!
Oh yes, that sounds like perfect running weather to me!
So funny about the kitty but it’s nice to have a little company on a run, lol
You know, now that you mention it, he is company because I do look for him while I’m out.
Have fun on your biking adventure!
I’ve been getting up too late in the mornings so if there have been cooler temps, I’ve been missing them. I hope to do better with that this week!
Thanks, we had a really good time!
I haven’t looked to see what this week’s weather is supposed to bring, but hopefully we’ll continue to have cooler mornings.
I’ve seen a woman grimly dragging her child, who is on a bicycle with stabilisers, up the hill in the next suburb to mine on a rope thing three times on early morning runs now (I’m running down the hill). There are a few runners I often see around. Great going this week and hooray for lower temperatures!
Wow, that sounds like quite the workout for that woman!
Hoepfully you’re not superstitious–If Black Cat runs in front of you, would you go a different way?
No, I’d raise my hands in the air and yell “Buttermilk!” When I was little my brother told me that would break the bad luck spell of a black cat walking across the road in front of me and I haven’t forgotten it. LOL
Our weather this week was pretty amazing!
(hit reply too soon) ,,,, I think the humidity is creeping back up this week. It was great riding with you today. Now I recognize the scenes of your run and ride pics.
It was great meeting you and riding together as well!
We were lucky!
I’m green-eyed with jealously down here. I sadly won’t see those temps until October. I used to see the same rabbit in the same location around the same time every morning. It makes me wonder what happened to it (sniff, sniff). I can’t wait to hear about that bike ride! Thanks for linking.
Did the rabbit succumb to the same demise as the two raccoons? 😉
Back in New Hampshire I used to see the same horse sticking his head out of a barn. It was like he was watching and waiting for me, ha! As usual, I love your running pics 😉
You were like the farm rooster – all the animals knew it was morning when you ran by! 😀 And thanks, I love my GoPro!
Love your little running “stalker!” My husband and I run the same routes quite a bit but at different paces, slightly different times and we have a handful of people we see again and again, like “red jacket guy” who is always running in the same red jacket, and “Fabio” who is totally tan with long flowing blond hair…It’s kinda fun.
Those cool morning runs sound amazing!
It’s funny you mention that because my husband and I used to see certain runners at different times. One we referred to as Squeaky because he ran in white Converse sneakers that squeaked. 😀 Does Fabio ever put his hair in a ponytail when he runs?
I am out so early in the mornings and I see a lot of bunnies. I don’t know if early morning is their “out and about” time or if I’m just seeing a lot more bunnies in general. One morning, I saw a bunny and a squirrel sitting about 3-feet apart, in a dead stare at each other….didn’t have my phone with me or else I’d taken their picture.
I wonder who won the stare-off, the bunny or the squirrel?
