Welcome to Wednesday Word, a weekly linkup for everyone, not just health and fitness bloggers. Each Wednesday you will have a single word prompt to write about. Let your imagination run free and share with your readers your interpretation of that word, or simply use it as inspiration for your post. Today’s word is ageless….. I’d love to have you link up, and if you do, please remember to follow my six simple rules.
Ageless – not growing old or showing the effects of age;
lasting forever
~ Merriam-Webster
It’s my birthday week and several months ago when I picked this week’s Wednesday Word, I chose ageless to go along with how I feel. Yes, of course I have a few age related aches and pains, and I certainly notice that it takes longer for me to recover from a longer run; but overall I feel young.
When you feel young, you are young. To me, age is far more of a mental state than a physical state. In almost every walk of life, I am the oldest. When I’m with my running friends, I’m the oldest – often by twenty plus years. When I’m with my neighbor friends, I’m the oldest – with the exception of a few. When I’m with my regular’ole longtime friends, I’m the oldest.
Is this by chance? Yes. Is this also by choice? Yes! And do you know why? These friends keep me young!
I’ve never been one to dwell on the negative, so I embrace each year older as a gift. A gift of…
- Another year to laugh with my family
- Another year to watch the sky change colors at sunrise and sunset
- Another year to feel my lungs exploding as I run across the finish line of a race
- Another year to hear the leaves and twigs crack beneath my feet as I run or hike the Appalachian Trail
- Another year to relax with friends in my back yard with margaritas in hand
- Another year to taste my mom’s amazing egg custard and chocolate cake
- Another year to put my thoughts on my little space on the internet
My birthday gift to you is a compilation of quotes on staying ageless. Any one of these four could be my mantra…
I’ll leave you with this question, as asked by the great Satchel Paige, “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?”
How old would I be? Who cares! It’s all about how you feel and act, not the number of candles on your birthday cake.
What do you find to be ageless?

Happy Birthday! I am the oldest too! and the oldest of my friends,! I agree, you are as old as you feel. This must be why we attract younger friends! Thank you for the link up and enjoy the day. Looking good!!!!!

I like your point that younger friends are attracted to us! 😀
I love the prompt this week. And your collection of quotes…especially the George Bernard Shaw one!

I’m glad today’s word was a good one for you. I was afraid that it might turn out to be a dud, but we’ve got lots of linkups! Can’t wait to read everyone’s interpretation!
Happy soon to be birthday! Today is my mom’s bday 🙂
Another year to enjoy life all around!
I have no idea how old I would be- I have to think about that one.
Happy birthday to your mom!
Your post is a beautiful meditation on growing with each trip around the sun, and enjoying the blessings that years have to offer. Happy birthday to you, Deb, and many, many more!

Thanks, Anne. You’re so sweet!
This week’s prompt stuck a chord with me, as you know!!! Glad to see that there are a few of us “older” runners out there, still getting it done. Yep, every day is a gift!

Can’t wait to see your interpretation of ageless (and that of my other 50+ friends)!
Here’s to feeling young birthday buddy!!

Thanks, you, too!
Great quotes & great attitude! I’m actually the youngest of the people I run with the most. I do have running friends who are younger, but not being speedy, no, I can’t really keep up with them. And my older running friends are often faster than me, too.
But I’m with you on the fact that age is just a number. A very happy birthday to you!

Thank you! I love the picture of you on the thumbnail on the linkup. Looking forward to popping over and reading your interpretation of ageless!
I love the last quote. I don’t feel 62.
Happy Birthday! 29, right?
Darlene recently posted…Wednesday Word: Ageless
Oh Darlene, I’m not far behind you at almost 58; but yes, I feel 29 – well maybe 35! 🙂
Happy Birthday! How old would I be if I didn’t know? 33! I love that question! It’s inevitable that the body will age, but the mind? That’s something that is wonderfully under our control!

33 is a good number! I think I’d be 35-40. No let me change that to 50. I liked that at 50 my body could still rock a bikini, it recovered well after runs, and my brain no longer gave a crap what people though! 😀
Happy birthday!
I’m usually the youngest in the crowd, so I’ve always felt the need to act older. But now that I’m getting older, I’m starting to feel just the opposite!

HaHa – that’ll happen! And thanks for the birthday wishes!
I love what you said about “when you feel young, you are young.” That is so true! I feel like I often see people for the way they feel/their personality, rather than solely by their outward appearance.

I hadn’t really thought about it, but I’m the same way. When we run together, I don’t think of you as being someone Joseph’s age, but rather one of my running friends doing what we both love. 🙂
I love another year to look forward to…that is a great list 🙂
I also love fifty is the new 30 🙂 Sounds good to me!

Two other quotes I didn’t use are, “You’re as old as you feel,” and “Life begins at forty.” I embrace both of those as well! 😉
Happy Birthday!!! I totally agree, you are only as old as you feel. I asked the same question you did on my blog, ha ha. I’d have to say I feel like I’m 27. 😀 My body tells me other wise from time to time though, ha ha.

It’s those occasional aches and pains that remind me that I’m no longer a youngster! 😀
Happy Birthday! “Live your life and forget your age.” Now that’s a good one!

I know; isn’t it a great mantra to live by?
Amen sister! I feel the same way. Many are so quick to want to classify by age and see it as a limiting factor. I pretty much ignore it. Age is different for everyone. Happy Birthday! Another year is the best gift!

I remember hearing people (probably my grandmother and her friends) say, “Women need to act their age, (or dress their age).” I say act the way you feel! 😀
