A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
I runfess: I am going to shamelessly promote my new Race Linkup here on Runfessions. Our next installment goes live this coming Monday, the last Monday of the month. Won’t you join us by linking up a post with your race schedule so we can arrange meet-ups at races with other bloggers and our readers?
I runfess: I just signed up for a race next weekend because of FOMO when I learned that Deborah would be running the race – we’ve never met! It just goes to show that Race Linkup works because that’s how Deborah and I got the conversation started about meeting at the race.
I runfess: I don’t wash my hair every day – it hasn’t needed daily washing since I turned forty. Sometimes when I come home from a run and then shower without washing my hair, my body aroma is great but my hair still reeks of sweat. On those mornings I spray it with Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar fine fragrance mist (affiliate link). I have no idea if this is bad for my hair, but it certainly does the trick without causing my hair to frizz!
I runfess: My beloved Feetures socks (affiliate link) have started slipping down and gathering around the middle of my foot during many of my runs. In the past this only happened when trail running up a very steep hill. Recently they’ve started doing it no matter which shoes I’m wearing and even when I’m not climbing a hill (it’s usually my right foot, but sometimes both). During the run where I took the picture below, I ran over six miles with my socks like this because I got tired of stopping to pull them back up. Any thoughts on what is going on and tips on how to prevent it? (Edited to add: I have about twelve pairs of Feetures and it happens to all of them AND my other socks, too.)
I runfess: I have been having a lot of GI distress recently while running – to the point that I almost don’t want to run unless I’m going to be doing laps around a porta potty. I just found this informative article on Runner’s World and wow, oh wow, does it sound like I have runner’s colitis. I often experience all four symptoms mentioned: cramping, nausea, diarrhea, and bleeding; especially after my longer runs in high heat and humidity. Fortunately, an hour or two after my run, the symptoms disappear until my next run under similar conditions. My other issue is urgency. Once I feel the urge to “go,” I have about thirty seconds to find a porta potty or secluded bush, or it’s too late… 🙁
Sorry if this is TMI, but I know it’s a common problem among runners. The article also discusses runner’s trots, a common, yet seemingly less serious problem. I’ve found that playing close attention to what I eat the day before a run is huge for me for avoiding runner’s trots – I can eat fibrous foods, but not fatty foods (other runners experience very different reactions to food). I also think the jostling during running really bothers my GI tract, and as the article points out, gravity isn’t exactly doing us any favors.
I runfess: I’m ready for spring. Yep, you read that correctly, this snow loving runner girl is ready for spring!
Ahhh yes, it feels good to get another set of runfessions off of my chest, especially since it’s has about four months since my last time in the runfessional.
- Questions:
- Runner girls who don’t wash their hair every day: what do you do to keep your hair from stinking of sweat?
- Do you have any embarrassing running moments to share?
- What suggestions do you have for my sock problem?

Today I’m linking up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice for her monthly Runfessions linkup. Be sure to check out her blog and those of the other great bloggers linking up, too.
Welcome back to the Runfessional! OMG that sock thing would drive me nuts! I swear I’d stop and fling them off, never to be seen again. I wash my hair on days I run but not other days. I never noticed a sweaty smell….now I’m wondering if others think I smell…

Thanks for the warm welcome back! I hope to be more regular in 2017.
I meet my running friends on Tuesdays and Thursdays and those are days that I have earlier clients, too, so I have less time to blow out and flat iron my hair between my run and work, thus the shower without washing my hair…
Believe me, I’ve thought about flinging my socks when they do that, but since all of my running socks are Feetures (I really do love them otherwise), I’d have to buy all new socks. Since my other socks I wear sometimes when I’m not running do the same thing, I think it’s me, and not the socks. 🙁
i have to wash my hair everyday for sure! i am so excited to meet you in real life it’s going to be great and hopefully this warmer weather will last too

It looks like it might be cold on Saturday morning, but at least we can hang out in the high school until race time! See you then! 🙂
Neat link up idea. I think finding and finally meeting blog /social media friends is so awesome.
Hmmmm…Maybe the elastic is getting loose.
I don’t wash my hair everyday either but most often black hair doesn’t need to be washed everyday. I do rinse it and co-wash (wash with conditioner) at least once a week.
I hope you’ll join us on Race Linkup this year! Perhaps this will be the year we finally meet…
Since I have a lot of Feetures socks – some new, some old – I don’t think it’s the elastic. I’m beginning to wonder if my feet swell (right foot specifically) some nights and; therefore, are too tight and slip down during my early morning run.
I definitely don’t wash my hair every day! Never did. Mostly my problem with that is the incredible frizziness. I might actually have runfessed about it.
I’ve no advice about the socks — thankfully, I haven’t had that happen. Yet.

I totally get the frizziness! Until I grew my hair out long enough to pull back into a tight ponytail my hair would grow into a huge frizzy mess sticking out in every direction during my runs. If my ponytail were longer, it would grow with a mind of its own. 😉
The socks…could they be getting stretched out? or is one foot a bit smaller than the other (that’s more common than most people realize). Washing the hair…this makes me smile. I seldom (if ever?) wash my hair daily, even if I’ve been running. Dry shampoo helps, but I just find clever ways to “messy bun” it or clip up some of the front pieces.

If either foot is larger, it would be my left since I’m left dominate and the issue is usually with my right foot. I have a bunch of those socks and some are almost brand new and it happens to them, too. I definitely think it has to do with my feet or something I do. Perhaps they are slippery from lotion I have to put on for dry skin (even though I never put it on in the morning before my run)…
I’ve tried dry shampoo, but it leaves my hair dull and powdery looking. Any recommendation on one that doesn’t? TIA
Never wash my hair everyday either…it’s just takes way too long to dry (thick and long). I’ve been guilty of just spraying some dry shampoo on it after a run and move right along with life. 🙂
Those socks! Oh my goodness, that would drive me nuts! The crazy thing is that I just bought my first pair of this brand and am absolutely loving them because the way they seem to just hug my arches….I hope mine don’t start doing this. 🙁
I don’t have any big races on my schedule yet but will definitely check the link out …it just may spur me on to register for something!

What dry shampoo do you use? I find that the two I’ve tried leave my hair dull and powdery looking.
I LOVE my Feetures for the same reason (and many other reasons). NONE of my friends have this problem and that’s why I’m so perplexed.
I hope you will join our Race Linkup! It would be great having you.
dry shampoo helps with the hair washing thing… i don’t wash mine everyday either 🙂

Please tell me which dry shampoo you recommend. The two I’ve tried have left my hair really dull looking. Thanks in advance!
I will admit I am tired of washing my hair too! I sure will spray some dry shampoo it is, tousle, pull up in a slick do and just dare someone to say something! 🙂
I like the way you think!
The problem with your Feetures is really surprising as I’ve never had a problem with them sliding! Maybe you have too much room in your shoe and your feet are sliding around in your shoe?
Ah, your new linkup – I do need to check that out, thanks for the reminder!
I’ve never heard of anyone else having this problem either. I love my Feetures and as I mentioned, this happens to my other socks sometimes, too. I don’t tie my shoes super tight because tight laces bother the top of my foot. Perhaps you’re on to something…
I can’t give you advice as a runner, but I wish I knew how to solve the sock slippage issue! I wonder if an insole would provide more traction, but that would mess with your gait.
For your hair…what about using a dryer sheet? Sounds silly, but they smell good! It’s worth a shot if you have them anyway.
I’m ready for spring too, but I wouldn’t mind one good snow.
Dana recently posted…Technology bonding generations
Okay, now that you mention the insole you’ve got me thinking… My custom orthotics have a silky sort of covering on them. I wonder if they’re causing the slippage?
I would like one good snow of the four to six inch variety, but then I’ll definitely be ready for tulips and jonquils! 😀
