This week was a blur with work, a follow-up periodontist appointment, my quarterly full-body skin check, and Bill’s birthday celebration. With my extra appointments, my runs had to be moved around so I’d have time to shower before those doctor’s appointments. I have no problem running, not showering, but changing into dry clothes, and meeting a client for a workout; but just can’t do the same before a doctor’s appointment. To my clients reading this, I am sorry that I don’t give you the same respect as I do my doctors, but my goal is to quickly get you as sweaty and stinky as me so you don’t notice my stench. 😉

Tuesday’s run was super early, 5:15 AM, and within my neighborhood so I could just slip out my door and run, and not have to worry about drive time. I didn’t take any pictures, but at the same location as where I’ve seen a skunk I saw two eyes reflecting back toward my headlamp. I froze until I realized that it was a neighbor’s cat who likes to take the occasional solo walk around the neighborhood.

The days are getting longer and it’s a real treat to have the sun starting to come up when I’m finishing my runs at 6:30. Wednesday I took this picture just before heading inside from another solo run in my neighborhood.

Thursday was not only Bill’s birthday, but National Margarita Day. He has all the fun – my birthday is on National Pickle Day. To celebrate his birthday, we went to a favorite local restaurant for dinner and of course, a margarita for me. Bill chose a 60-minute IPA, whatever the heck that means. Not being a fan of beer, I don’t understand all that stuff. For dinner I had shrimp tacos and Bill got blackened fish tacos. That, I understand!

With a trail 25K coming up in six weeks and a half marathon in early June, I need to up my Saturday morning long runs and it sure wouldn’t hurt to do a few trail runs in the upcoming weeks. Last Saturday I did a very hilly eight-mile run so I decided to increase my mileage to ten miles this week.

Saturday morning I met my MRTT friends for my run – they were running eight miles so I tacked two more onto the end. Only four of us showed up so we headed out and met some of our other friends who had started earlier. They gave us a heads up to watch for a tortoise and a hare alongside the trail, but we didn’t see them on our trip out. After our turnaround, we saw these two taking a rest – I thought it was only the hare who stopped to rest…

And of course, we couldn’t resist a group photo before heading on…

In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…

Looking ahead to this coming week, tomorrow I’ll post my February Race Linkup. Please feel free to join me and let your friends know which races they can find you running in the next few months. In the next week or two, I’ll be featuring another local athlete in my Spotlight On Local Athletes series.

In addition to what I mentioned above, here’s a complete run-down of my workouts in my home gym from this past week…

  • Questions:
  • When was your last trail run?
  • Are you a tortoise or a hare? ~ I’m more of a tortoise – long and steady wins the race, or at last finishes it. I wouldn’t say I’m as slow as a tortoise, but I usually know how to pace myself.
  • Did you race this weekend?

Have a great week!
