This past week marked the next to last week in my training cycle for the Grand Tetons Half which is just six short days away! Last week’s weekday runs were pretty much the same as all the other weeks in the training cycle; however, I have been cutting the miles back on my Saturday long runs and tapered down to six miles yesterday.
Tuesday morning I met my friends for hill repeats, but had to scurry away after we finished and I didn’t get a picture.
Due to a crazy busy Thursday (training clients, annual doctor’s appointment, and hair appointment), I ran alone on Wednesday morning rather than with my friends on Thursday. I’m sure my doctor appreciated the switch so I’d have time to shower before our appointment. 😉
While heading back to our house after my Wednesday morning run, I spotted a fox sitting in the middle of our cul-de-sac bathing himself. Once he saw me, he trotted off into our back yard. At the same time there was a squirrel sitting on the turret over our master bath taunting me. Some mornings, he (and his friends) wake us up by running laps on the roof.
Saturday morning I met my Cruiser friends Vamshi and Amit for what will be Vamshi’s last run with us before he and his family move back to India. I will miss him, but he promises to stay in touch and perhaps even write a guest post about what it’s like to run in India versus Virginia.
Bill timed it so he would be out biking and see us on our return so he could say his goodbyes to Vamshi as well.
Once home, I moved back into barbecue prep mode, where I’ve spent every spare minute since hitting up Costco on Wednesday afternoon. Since then I’ve been back to Costco, to the grocery store twice, and Home Depot once, all for picking up things for the party. It’s a labor of love, but boy does it take a lot of work. Currently we have 57 yeses, and 21 maybes; and yes, for the third year in a row it’s supposed to rain all afternoon. It’s gorgeous now (see picture below), so perhaps we should move our barbecue to the morning…
It’s time to shower and do beauty duty before our guests arrive, so that’s a wrap…

I’m linking up with Holly at HoHo Runs and Wendy from Taking The Long Way Home for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
I did not race this weekend; I did a fatass run with 25 friends. It was a hilly, muddy 1 mile loop around a lake. I did 15 miles and hubby did 13. Afterwards we had a cookout with watermelon and hot dogs. so much fun!
That does sound like fun!
That’s a big BBQ you are hosting, but I know you’ll pull it off easily. I hope the rain holds off. Good luck next weekend at your half marathon! Thanks for linking!
The barbecue was a huge success, and the rain storms split and went north and south of us, and somehow, we stayed dry!
NO racing this weekend (unless you count numerous trips inside/outside the house) and all the grad party stuff. Nothing on tap for tomorrow except for a small group run at a lake and through the cemetery to pay our respects and admire all the American flags.
Congrats to your daughter! Your group run sounds nice.
As a military spouse, I’m definitely familiar with the feeling of running partners moving away and usually, it’s me! It stinks, especially when you find someone or a group of someones that you really connect with.
Hope the weather held out for your barbecue! My mom lives up that-a-way and she said the clouds were rolling in earlier. And that’s a big BBQ! I’d be a huge ball of stress if I had that many yesses. haha
We used to invite 100 families, knowing that many wouldn’t be able to attend because of other activities, out out-of-town sports tournaments, etc. This year we cut it back to 83 families. We entertain a lot and I’ve gotten this party down to a science, but I still get pretty stressed out about getting everything done even though I hire a friend to work the party.
Sounds like a fun party for you all! Hope the weather held up for you. It’s rather sauna like out there. Race week already?! exciting!
Can you believe that the rain storms split and went north and south, but skipped us? We were so lucky!
Wow, that’s a lot of people! I hope you had good weather. We had a post graduation gathering but it was just 10 of us. Much more manageable!
Congratulations to your son! Yes, the weather held out for us! We’ve been putting on this barbecue for many years so it’s become a well-oiled machine. I also hire a friend to work the party so we can relax (for the most part) and enjoy our guests.
We had a family picnic today. I have a good friend that I would always run with, so it was sad when I moved away. I lost my running buddy. I normally do not run with anyone now. Which is fine, because I am more of a solo runner anyway. But it is always nice to switch things up every now and then.
I agree – it’s nice to have time alone and nice to run with friends.
