On February 20th, my friend and fellow MRTT mama, Katie Heddleston’s ten-day Real Runners Virtual Summit will commence and I’m pleased to let you know that I was asked by Katie to join in as one of her twenty-three real runner speakers.
During my interview, I spoke with Katie about running longevity and how my running has changed as I’ve gotten older. We discussed running for fitness versus training to race at a locally competitive level and what younger runners can do to ensure a long running career. I also touched on concerns specific to older females and how running might help or hinder certain age-related conditions.
Having just undergone surgery to remove a melanoma from my left cheek two days prior to our interview, I spoke with Katie about skin cancer awareness and what we can do to limit our time in the sun, especially during our longer training runs.
For more information on the Real Runners Virtual Summit, please be sure to check out Katie’s website. Here’s just a tiny excerpt of what you’ll find there…

Now on to this past week’s workouts…
Bill and I were just talking about how dreary and non-photogenic our winters are in Virginia without snow – a big reason I haven’t been posting to Instagram as frequently. One word sums up how this past week looked and felt, gloomy. I still got my workouts in and I’m convinced that working out regularly and getting outside to run is what keeps me happy and in good spirits during the winter. 🙂
Here’s how my workouts went down…
- Questions:
- Have you participated in a running camp, running seminar, or running conference in the past?
- What questions do you have about the Real Runners Virtual Summit?
- Did you race this past weekend?
Have a great week!

Definitely check it out! Katie came up with some great topics for the summit. I can’t wait to listen to all of the other speakers.
I actually just did a blog post on how running changes for women as they get older. I think it is an important topic for women. The summit sounds every interesting.

Definitely check out the summit and see if it’s something you’d like to participate in. Katie was fantastic to work with and has pulled together such a great well-rounded summit.
No racing. And snow isn’t pretty for long — it gets dirty damn quickly!

HaHa, you’re right about snow along the road getting nasty looking, but when I look out my kitchen windows at the snow-covered back yard with the creek flowing through it, it’s lovely until it melts.
Each time we return from Disney, I notice how extra gray everything looks here in winter after being spoiled with colorful flowers and green grass. I don’t mind the winter temps…just the lack of color. I haven’t participated in a running summit/conference. It looks like a great variety of topics are included in this one. Thanks for linking, Deb!
I can’t imagine coming back to my yard after a week at Disney in the winter. That would be quite the color shock!
Yes, I think Katie did a great job getting a wide variety of speakers and topics for her runners summit.
Congrats on getting chosen to speak at the event. I never heard of it. Sounds very interesting. I am sick of this gloomy weather as well. Rain rain go away!

I just heard that there’s more rain in the forecast for tomorrow… 🙁
I’ve never heard of this summit! Sounds interesting!
It’s been really gray and gloomy here, but you know my motto: you have to bring your own sunshine!
