Overview of the Week
Here’s my complete rundown of workouts from this past week completed either outside or in our home gym. Scroll down for a details from each day.
Sunday
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect on Sunday when Bill and I went on a 20-mile bike ride in search of this mural. I see it on the backside of a building whenever we take the back way home from Reston Town Center and I’ve always wanted to use it as a backdrop for a picture. This building is a few blocks off of the W&OD Trail and we had to ride around a little bit to find it. We lucked out and stopped on a day when the sky was very similar to the one on the mural, making for a really cool picture.
Monday
Now that I’m riding on Tuesdays, I decided to move my walk to Monday (at least for this week). I walked 3 miles around our circle at a 16:16 average pace as a warmup before lifting weights. Later in the afternoon I did my physical therapy homework.
Tuesday
Surprisingly, it was 63° when I met my new biking buddy Betsy (B3) on Tuesday morning at 11 AM. I felt chilly in my short sleeved jersey, but the temperature rose to 75° by the time we finished and I was plenty warm. We rode 15-miles pushing hard – our course was very much downhill to the turnaround so we had to work much harder on the climb coming home.
It was a gorgeous evening, so Bill and I took a 2-mile walk to have dinner at a popular barbecue place near the W&OD Trail.
Wednesday
With temperatures expected to get up into the mid-90’s on Wednesday, I headed out for my 5-mile walk (15:15 average pace) at 5:45 AM. Even though I couldn’t run, I wasn’t going to miss getting outside for a walk on Global Running Day. I wore my 9-year-old shirt from the Richmond Marathon hoping it would inspire my body to heal quickly.
After seeing my morning clients I lifted weights and completed my physical therapy homework.
Thursday
After getting a taste on Wednesday of being back outside for my cardio workout while enjoying the sunrise, I hit repeat on Thursday and was treated to this sunrise. I walked 5 miles in my neighborhood at a 15:40 average pace. Later in the afternoon I did my physical therapy homework and foam rolled.
Friday
I had a very busy work schedule which is unusual for Fridays, especially during this time of staying at home. I got up super early with Bill and headed to the basement to lift as he rode off to meet his cycling crew. I got a good portion of my workout completed before dialing up my 6:3o AM client and then finished my workout during a 2-hour break later in the morning. And of course, as on all Friday’s I stretched with my students during the balance and stretching class I now teach online.
Saturday
Bill and I beat the heat with a 26-mile bike ride – it was 69° when we left our house at 7:30 AM and 81 when we returned about 2 hours later. Fortunately, there’s a breeze on a bike so it doesn’t feel as hot as it does running or walking.
Check this out! My Garmin showed 26.0 miles as I headed toward our driveway so I hit stop and saved the ride.
Later when I looked at my Garmin Connect app, it showed my ride was only 25.98 miles. Noooooo!!! Had I not noticed I was at 26 miles exactly as I approached my driveway and stopped the Garmin, I probably would have ended at 26-even as I pulled up to the garage.
Here’s What You Might Have Missed
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Weekly RunDown: May 24 Through 30
- Tuesday – Taking it to the Core
- Wednesday – Celebrating Global Running Day Over the Years
- Friday – Catching Up Over Coffee: Cinco de Mayo Fail, Yard Art, and Toilet Paper
Questions:
- • Did you celebrate Global Running Day? If so, how?
- • Have you stopped your Garmin when it showed an even mile, but Garmin Connect short changed you?
- • Did you run in a virtual race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but those of the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
Isn’t it just great to be out on your bike again! I forgot how much I love riding outside. Enjoy these nice days we are having. Thanks for linking up
I am loving it and at the same time kicking myself for not getting back out there sooner.
It was in the mid-60’s for our ride this morning, and I was cold! That breeze on the bike is no joke 😉 I’m totally loving that mural!!!
It was 59° when I walked this morning and even though I had on shorts and a short sleeved top, I wore my gloves. My neighbors must think I’m nuts! LOL
I can’t wait to go out and have a ride.
Have fun!
Yep, all of the running apps that I use have slightly different opinions about the final numbers. I mean…they’re all close it’s just that they’re all reading the same data so it’s weird that there is ever any difference. I try to take it as a sign not to get too caught up in the numbers.

I thought my Garmin just transferred my data to my phone app so wouldn’t it be the same? It’s really no big deal, but as you know, we runners/bikers do tend to like nice and tidy numbers. 😉
I wonder why the numbers were not the same. I think that would drive me crazy. Even though you are not running, you are still active. Great job!

Thanks, Zenaida! And yes, even though it’s no big deal, I do like the even numbers. 😀
Yes, sometimes there is that annoying discrepancy between the Garmin and the Garmin Connect. Boooo!
Looks like you got in some fantastic rides and miles. That mural is gorgeous!
It’s weird, isn’t it? Doesn’t the Garmin just transfer the data to Garmin Connect?
Yes, isn’t the mural cool?
Oof. I’ve been doing pretty terribly on my goals lately, but hoping to put a stop to that shortly (aka today). I need to get more walking/consistent exercise in!! I’ve been meaning to take my bike out more!
There’s no time like the present! 😀
Good job getting out there & beating the heat! I don’t think I’ve ever noticed if Connect shortchanged me. Weird!
Garmin Connect did a similar thing yesterday, only this time it gave me .04 mile. Perhaps it felt guilty after me calling it out. LOL
