Welcome to Wednesday Word, a weekly linkup for everyone, not just health and fitness bloggers. Each Wednesday you will have a single word prompt to write about. Let your imagination run free and share with your readers your interpretation of that word, or simply use it as inspiration for your post. Today’s word is celebrate….. I’d love to have you link up, and if you do, please remember to follow my six simple rules.
Celebrate – to do something special or enjoyable
for an important event, occasion, holiday, etc
~ Merriam-Webster
No doubt about it, there’s much to be celebrated between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. Whether you’re deeply religious, enjoying the holidays from a strictly commercial standpoint, or somewhere in between, you’re likely to be busy…
- Devouring roasted turkey with family on Thanksgiving Day
- Muddling through office holiday parties with coworkers
- Singing Christmas carols joyfully, even if off key
- Attending Christmas Eve church services
- Watching loved ones unwrap gifts in mad chaos
- Cheering on your favorite college football teams during the multitude of bowl games
- Sipping Champagne while ringing in the New Year
But what about the rest of the year? Do we celebrate everyday moments? Do we celebrate our accomplishments, no mater how big or small? Do we celebrate our family and friends?
Some big enough to deserve a special meal or party, and some so small they may have just been celebrated with a smile, a hug, or an acknowledgement, these are a few of the things I celebrated this past year…
- Recovering from an injury that took me off the trails for five weeks
- My 100th race
- Birthdays of my family members
- A new puppy next door
- New jobs and MBA school acceptance for my sons and daughter-in-law
- Being married to a really cool guy for 34 years
- One year of having a new extended family
- Running with Daniel at his first half marathon
- Visiting Chicago for the first time
- Having Joseph and Julie home for Thanksiving
- PR’s of many of my running friends
- New distances conquered for many of my running friends
Yes, it’s important to make time to celebrate your accomplishments, no mater how big or small.
What are you celebrating this season, or all year long?

Next Wednesday’s Word: Stressful
It just occurred to me my title could be interpreted to mean celebrate PRs, LOL! I didn’t think if that pun until just now.
I often try to remind my husband the think about the good things, not complain about the bad.

I like the pun!
I agree, we need to celebrate year-round. And not just the big accomplishments, but the little, everyday things as well. We also need to be there alongside others, and celebrate with them when they achieve their goals. 😉

That’s one of the things I love about being a part of a large running group – there are so many firsts to celebrate with the newer runners, and lots of PR’s to celebrate with my other running friends. 🙂
So much to celebrate this year. There were some lows too, some family drama, but I’m so glad I had running to keep me moving forward.

Running certainly helps us keep our sanity when things get tough. I’m so thankful to have it!
That’s really cool that you track your total races! I have lost count with all the 5Ks and such, especially back when I wasn’t running regularly. I agree, lots to celebrate this year!

I kept all of my old bibs with the date and time on the back. In the old days many of the smaller races had generic bibs (often supplied by Runner’s World), so I had to write the race name on those races. I set up an Athlinks account several years ago and found most of my old races there, so it was easy to transfer that information over to my blog when I started it. 🙂
I love the idea of celebrating big or small! and the comment about your cool guy, that is super sweet! Happy Wednesday, let’s celebrate!

Indeed, let’s celebrate just because… 🙂
Remembering to celebrate life;s everyday moments is so important to remember!

Even if it’s just an acknowledgement with a smile or a congratulations; however, a nice note can be a really nice touch!
When writing last week’s post about traditions, it reminded me of the many celebrations throughout the year. I agree that sometime we forget to celebrate the small success as well- great reminder!
You had a ton of fun celebrations in your post last week about creating traditions for your children!
There is so much to celebrate all year long! Since my daughter is still young, it seems like we still have so many “firsts” to celebrate – starting preschool, learning to write her name, recognizing the numbers 1-10, first school performance, etc. Plus personal achievements, and simply good health and well being! Great reminder!

That’s so true – I remember all of those firsts when our sons were little. Enjoy them!
I’m with you on celebrating the little things. It really makes you appreciate life. I think we get so focused on the BIG things (like race goals etc) that we forget to celebrate the little milestones that get us to those big goals. Cheers to a good year! 🙂

That’s a good point that we usually focus on the big things, and often miss acknowledging the little milestones that get us there.
In addition to the typical holiday celebrations and madness, I’m celebrating a very slow return to running after injury. It is all about small victories right now! Thanks Deb for the link!

Celebrating a comeback from an injury is one of the sweetest things to celebrate!
You’re very welcome – I love having you join us for the linkup.
Definitely great things to celebrate ! Knowing how to find happiness in the small things in life is so important.

Indeed, and it makes life so much more fun!
I think any day we are able to do what we love is a reason to celebrate! Wouldn’t you agree? I remember Marcia posting about keeping a Victory Jar and anytime you accomplish something worth celebrating, jot it down and put it in there to read when your feeling blahhh! I’m so very glad I was able to participate in this today, even if it was unplanned! 😉 Thank you for this and all your hard work to keep it going!

I do like Marcia’s idea about the victory jar. I think it would be especially useful for “glass half full” types.
And, you’re so welcome!
Well that finalizes things… my new years resolution for 2016 is to celebrate all year long 🙂 You make a great point, though! We should be celebrating the big things and the small ones!
