This week was a blur and all I really seem to remember was a lot of rain. When tallying my run distances for the week I’m shocked! 14.1 miles must be an all-time low for me during a non-injury week.

Monday was a drizzly mess, but I managed to get up early and lift before seeing my clients. Tuesday morning I met my running friends at 5:30 AM in the drizzle before the rain hit. Once the heavier rain started falling, I was glad to have gotten up so early even though I could have slept in.

I had my GoPro with me in hopes of taking pictures of the life-sized nut crackers in front of the restaurant where we park, but by the time we finished our run the lights were turned off and I couldn’t get any shots. Perhaps next week I’ll arrive early. Who am I kidding! I squeak in at the last second right as the minute hand hits thirty.

On Wednesday morning I overslept and woke only a half an hour before my first client arrived. I ended up lifting weights late in the day, but I got them in!

Even though it was still dark, Thursday morning the sky was clear and rain-free when we ran. There were six of us plus Nelson the dog. Dora even joined us! She doesn’t make it to very many of our weekday morning runs so it was a pleasant surprise on Wednesday night when she texted to say she was joining us! It was great to catch up with her, and before I knew it, we’d pulled ahead of the pack, cruising along about thirty seconds faster than our usual pace.

Friday brought an early morning workout before I saw my one and only client of the day. After she left I spent the day running errands, getting my hair cut and highlights added. My hairdresser has the most uncomfortable chairs for washing hair. My back hurts badly while I lean back unsupported, and I usually have to hug my knees to get a pelvic tilt so I don’t hyperextend my lowerback. I was thrilled that after one month of focusing extra hard on core strengthening and stretching exercises, my back didn’t hurt at all!

I also spent the work week wondering what was going on in our basement and finally realized that Buddy our elf was back and it was he who was creating the little messes in the basement. You can read a poem I wrote about his adventures here.

Saturday morning I skipped my group run with my friends to rest up before my race today. After a rare and relaxing Saturday morning 8 AM wake-up, I spent the day working on a presentation for a class I’ll be teaching in March at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, sponsored by George Mason University. I also worked on designing our Christmas cards, and working on this blog post. Next I moved onto more active things like making reinbeer, pulling together my race outfit for today’s 5K, and wrapping some Christmas presents.

This morning Erin and I met our MRTT friends at Reston Town Center for the Run With Santa 5K. We had a great showing from our chapter, and it was so fun to see these four young ladies running with their moms. I hope to have my full recap up on Tuesday.

Once home, it was a rush to get a few things done around the house before heading to Erin’s house for our chapter’s annual holiday party and fun gift exchange.

After a fun afternoon with that group of running friends, I rushed home to get ready for the Cruisers‘ annual Christmas party. We met at a Japanese steak and seafood restaurant for dinner, and then came back to Bill’s and my house for dessert, drinks, and our silly gift exchange. We had so much fun that the last of the Cruisers left at 10:30…

I took Race Dots as my gift to both events, and might have purchased an extra set for myself!

Three major running events in one day… Yes, it truly was a Sunday Runday!
