Flowers Always Brighten the Day

As I mentioned on Thursday, I’ve been lying low with the flu since Wednesday. Thankfully, I’d gotten the flu vaccine in the fall so I had a lighter case. On Saturday afternoon our doorbell rang and this beautiful floral bouquet was delivered. I instinctually knew the flowers were from my mom who has been calling daily to see how I was feeling. Moms are like that!

 

Blessings and Warnings on Running the We’ve Got Your Back 5K

Last week I mentioned that I had discovered the perfect 5K for my first race back after my injury, the We’ve Got Your Back 5K. At Monday’s PT appointment I asked my physical therapist Ashley what she thought about me running the race. She said it is fine as long as I leave my ego at the starting line and run the race easy, possibly even using run/walk intervals. Even though we’ve only been working together less than two months, she knows me well!

 

Physical Therapy, the Great Healer

Monday was my only physical therapy session that I got in this week prior to getting sick. We continued to work on my squat and deadlift form and to challenge my body with new and interesting moves – one of which involved rolling across the floor in a very slow and deliberate manner, leading with my far leg or arm crossing over first.

As I left, Ashley told me that we’d run on the treadmill at Thursday’s session. Unfortunately, the flu had other plans for me…

Running

0 x 0 Miles

Still no running… Thanks, flu!

 

Walking

1 x 3 Miles with Incline

I increased the distance while walking on the treadmill (affiliate link) to 3 miles. I kept my speed at 4.0 and I held the incline at 4.0 for 10 minutes before reducing the incline as gradually as I had increased it. My plan was to do this same 3-mile walk 3 more times during the week, but the flu got the better of me.

 

Biking

0 x 0 Miles

My only plan for riding my spin bike (affiliate link) was for yesterday, but even though I’m feeling much better, I am still quite fatigued and I thought it best to skip the workout.

 

Strength Training

1 x 1 Hour
1 x 1 Hour for PT
3 x 30 Minutes for PT Homework

Monday’s strength training session was the only one I got in this past week before getting sick.

I surprised myself on Tuesday while teaching my Fitness Machines 101 class at the gym when a guy sort of smirked and asked me to demonstrate using the pull-up bar. I laughed and stepped up on the little stool, and with a slight jump grabbed the bar and proceeded to rather awkwardly pull myself all the way up. Just to show off, I did a super slow negative as I returned to the stool. I’m not sure who was more surprised, my students or me!

 

Yoga

0 x 0 Minutes

Who know, perhaps I’ll get in some yoga this coming week!
