Today was a huge day for the Cruisers!!! First I want to give a shout-out to Vamshi, Amanda, and Kim for their great performances at the Rock ‘N’ Roll USA Half-Marathon in D.C. this morning! All three Cruisers did great, and two set a new PR!
Back home, Bill and I met Beth on the trail for a long run. She is training for the Paris Marathon in three weeks and wanted to do a final long run of 20 miles today. She had already completed five miles before Bill and I met her at the trail. The three of us ran together for four miles, and then Bill turned back because he had to go into the office for a while today. I continued with her and ran my first 15-miler since my injury in January of 2012! Six hours later, I still feel great; and I’m loving my compression socks (well, actually Bill’s because I need to order some for me)!
Before we let Bill head home, we took these mandatory pictures.
Beth and I continued and less than a mile from our turn-around point, a man stopped us to warn us that the man up ahead (walking away from us, but within sight) was angrily talking to himself, and for us to be careful. Thanks to Beth’s Garmin Forerunner 110 GPS-Enabled Sport Watch with Heart Rate Monitor (Pink), we were able to turn around there and figure out our mileage without using the trail’s mile posts. We decided it’s better to be safe than sorry!
Beth and I were so happy to see that the buds on the bushes along the trail are starting to have a significant green sheen to them!
We were thrilled to see this new porta-potty addition to the trail. Thank you Bike DePot!
Thank you to the Regional Park Authority, Friends of the W&OD, or whomever is responsible for installing this new water fountain along the trail!
This old stone chimney has always been one of my favorite sites along the trail. Don’t you love the “one knee bent, hand on hip” pose I’m striking? 🙂
- Questions:
- Did you race this weekend? If so, how did you do?
- Have you ever encountered a scary person when you’re out on a run?
- Do you get as excited as I do to see new porta-potties and water fountains on your running trail? 🙂
CONGRATS on the 3 PRs!!
Your team did great! That’s awesome 🙂
The run looks like it was beautiful… glad you were able to improvise and stay out of harm’s way.
I ran 10 today with Glenn. It was a challenge, but it was worth it. I so need a pair of compression socks.
Looks like a fun long run! I’ve run on the W&OD trail a number of times. We usually got on the trail at the road crossing that’s close to the 10 mile marker (can’t remember the name of the road). We would typically run through Vienna and continue out that way, with the mile markers counting up.
I have encountered a scary/questionable person on a trail before and luckily it was on my way out for an out and back, so I did what y’all did and just turned around.
I ran my first 10K this weekend and finished in 57:21. Automatic PR since it was my first 🙂
I get very excited when there are bathroom additions to a trail! Sometimes just knowing it’s there is enough and you never actually end up needing it. Definitely beats having to go off the trail in search of a bush or large tree.
Yay for your 10K PR! 🙂
When I’m in Blacksburg I love running on the Huckleberry Trail because it has that huge new potty out closer to Christiansburg! Awww, the little things in life that make a runner happy!
Congrats to the cruisers and for your first 15 miler post injury! I bet that was a huge confidence booster!!
I love to see porta-potties and water fountains on the trails – but I get so disappointed in winter when I am like dying for water and run up to one, and they are turned off for the season. It’s soul crushing.
I am proud to say I rocked out a 17 minute PR today in the R&R Half! And you better believe I’ll be spending some serious time with my foam roller before bed, ha.
Congrats, Logan! That is a great cut off of your old time! Yay for you!
The old water fountains haven’t been turned back on yet, so we were thrilled that the new one was working!
Congrats to the Cruisers on the RNR Half! Great job!
Awesome pictures Debbie! I am looking at the compression socks now, definitely will get a pair this week. The question is pink or purple!?!
Buy both! 🙂
