I am going to start a new series called Picture This _______ Run. It will be a series of pictures from runs from an area taken on a single run, or over a series of many runs.
I won’t call it Rave Runs because David Willey, editor-in-chief of Runner’s World, said, “I wish you wouldn’t do that,” when I mentioned to him that I name my Facebook albums about my favorite runs, Rave Runs. Out of respect for him and Runner’s World, I won’t… 😉
Today’s Picture This Beach Run starts at mile marker 13 on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and at a favorite hang-out spot for these pelicans and seagulls. It’s the turn-around point for Bill and me on many of our beach runs…
We always see plenty of seagulls walking along the water’s edge…
Or flying overhead…
Sometimes we drive north and park next to the North Carolina / Virginia border and run through the wildlife refuge…
And into False Cape State Park…
If we don’t want to run along the shore line, we can run on a sand road such as this one to Wash Woods boat dock and the Ranger’s Quarters…
If I’m lucky, I might see a handsome man running toward me… 😉
Or see a seagull enjoying a sunrise on another day…
Or have to jump out of the way of some horses enjoying a morning run…
Sorry that this picture is a rerun from my Running With The Horses post in June.
If it were all the way back in 1988, I might see a buffalo walking up the beach! A guy north of us had buffalo and cattle and occasionally they would escape and wonder the beach…
- Questions:
- Where’s your favorite Picture This Run?
- Have you ever run on the beach?
- Have you ever seen a buffalo walking along the beach?
Love all the pictures! They all look so calming and peaceful 🙂 I think I would freak out if I saw a buffalo on the beach!
Thankfully the buffalo no longer roam the beach. It was unnerving when the boys were little. One morning we woke up with a herd of cattle and buffalo surrounding our house!
I would not be happy with a buffalo on the beach! OMG!
I’ve never actually run on the beach, but I live close enough that I could. I might try it one of these days.
I always kept my distance even though they appeared to not care about us humans, and pretty much ignored us. One morning we woke up to them (and some cows) all around our house!
Love this new series!!! =) I LOVE the Rave Run section of RW, so this is perfect.
I love running along the beach and very rarely get the opportunity to do it. The next beach trip we are taking (that I know of, unless a spur of the moment Dewey Beach trip pops up) is to Mexico in January.
Bahahahaha a buffalo?!?! That is SO RANDOM! I’ve seen buffalo in the wild before in CO and Wyoming, but never on a beach. =).
My favorite Picture This Runs are always back home in Colorado. There’s something about sweeping mountain views that melts my heart and warms my soul.
I agree, the Rockies are breathtaking!
Love this idea & love all of the beautiful pics! The shot of Bill running toward you is awesome!
Thanks! I’ve got a Picture This Country Roads Run set to post soon. You’ll be able to totally relate to it!
These are so beautiful! Running near the ocean gives me such a sense of peace, regardless of if it’s a tropical beach or cooler one.
I think I have three favourite picture this runs: Cannon Beach in Oregon, Jasper trails, and my favourite run in Waikiki.
The scenery in those three runs are so very different; yet each beautiful in its own way!
Love all those pictures and every pic you ever take on your runs! Buffalo on the beach?! I don’t run on the beach because it hurts my knees too much but I love running “on it” on the sidewalk!
Thanks, Emma! We run at low tide when the sand is packed if our timing is right; otherwise, we have to go to the trails along the road.
Neat series! I love all of your beach pictures 🙂 How wild to see a buffalo (!?!?) making his way down the beach. Have you ever seen one of those things run full speed? It’s wild! Y’all are tough to run on the sand like that. I seldom actually run on the beach when on vacation for two reasons. One, I don’t like to get sand in my shoes while walking through the soft stuff to the water’s edge, and two running along the beach feels endless to me.
My favorite picture this run is probably the Huckleberry. I know it’s not necessarily the most scenic, but it just feels like home 🙂
I keep two pairs of shoes, one for running in the sand, and one for other runs. I’m not a big fan of getting sand in my house (or shoes)! 🙂
Picture This Huckleberry Trail Run will be coming up soon! 🙂
I’ve never run on the beach (though I’ve heard it’s a heckuva workout).
That buffalo is hilarious!
We ran eight miles on the beach during low tide and very packed sand yesterday and my legs felt shredded!
