If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a little obsessed with college football, and my Hokies in particular! Yesterday was College Colors Day, so I rocked this outfit for my 7 AM running client. Remember back in April when I wrote BEST. NEWS. EVER = Hokie Half-Marathon and told you how excited I was to register for it? At the time I was looking for a shirt to match my new VT shorts. This summer I found both orange and white Nike racer-backs that I love. And guess what? There’s only two more weeks until the race!
Oh wait, didn’t I start out talking about football? Anyway, my beloved Hokies play #1 Alabama tonight and I think we are 20 point underdogs. I would love a big ole upset, but I’ll settle for us not to embarrass ourselves… Go Hokies! #BeatBama
This morning the Cruisers met for our weekly group long run. Amanda is training for the Marine Corps Marathon (her first), and was scheduled to run 18 miles. I ran 14 with her and I’m so grateful that I’ve been feeling really good and that I’m able to get these slightly longer runs in. I can’t believe that I forgot to take a group photo, especially now that I know how to use my timer on my camera.
After trying Amanda’s Honey Stingers a few weeks ago, I went out and bought some. Is it weird that I think they are so yummy and would be temped to eat them like candy?
There were millions of bikers out today. Just as we were about to start back up from a potty break* and water fountain stop, we saw this peloton of bikers heading toward us; and this was just one of many groups of cyclists. We also saw a lady ride by on an ElliptiGo, but I didn’t get a picture… *You didn’t think I could talk about a long run without saying the word “potty,” did you?
This little bug sprinted across the trail in front of me and I stopped in my tracks to watch him. He was moving faster than any bug I’ve ever seen. Sorry that the picture is taken from above him, but he was moving so fast that I couldn’t get a picture of him on his level. Does anyone know what kind of bug he is?
We got back to our cars and I found this note tucked under my windshield wiper. These two Cruisers were doing their own thing this morning and weren’t sure if they’d see us or not. It’s nice to be loved! 🙂
And speaking of cars, we regularly see this yellow Jeep parked in the trail parking lot. We’ve talked to the lady that drives it, but she’s never run with us. I’d say that it’s very safe to assume that she’s a very active, outdoorsy type of person.
Apparently she does it all! Hiking, swimming, biking, running, relaying… Ragnar is definitely on my running bucket list!
I resorted to a roasted vegetable California Pizza Kitchen pizza for lunch. Bill has to work all weekend so it’s just me, and I just didn’t feel like making anything. Carbs post-run are good. No?
After lunch I stopped by to visit my little next door neighbor who was busy making presents for his friends and family with his new Rainbow Loom. It’s all the rage here for both boys and girls.
While visiting, he offered me chocolate Teddy Grahams and I thought it would be rude to turn them down, so I had a couple a handful.
I didn’t leave empty handed either! Ev made a maroon and orange bracelet for me! I wasn’t blogging at the time, so I haven’t shared this with you, but for Christmas he gave me a Costco size box of 36 Mounds bars, my favorite candy. Is he the best, or what!?!
- Questions:
- When and what is your next race?
- Can you identify that little orange and black bug?
- What stickers and magnets are on your car? ~ I have a Runner Girl magnet on the side of my car
- Have you heard of Rainbow Loom?
I have a Runner Girl magnet too! Plus my license plate is Runingrl. I’ve never heard of rainbow loom but that’s probably because my sons are too old and my grandson is too young.
I just happened to hear about it on the news and what a huge hit it was with elementary school children; otherwise, I would have been clueless when Ev showed it to me.
I DO NOT identify bugs!
Glad you were able to get in some great miles.
So sorry for the Hokies 🙁
I was actually okay with the game. We played better than I thought we would and our defense looked great. I heard the announcers say that the VT defense was probably the toughest or second toughest Alabama would see all season. Like a good fan, I’m already looking forward to next weekend’s game!
You just need to take off the burgundy and add some royal blue for my liking 🙂 I also want to pull people over when I see running stickers on the backs of cars so I can introduce myself and make a new friend! Happy Labor Day!
I know! I always try to check out the drivers of cars with runner magnets/stickers on them! If they run, they could be a future BRF, right?
I’m doing a one mile fun run tomorrow! Then nothing until Tower of Terror. Eek!
That bug? No clue.
I don’t have any magnets or stickers. I’m weird about putting stuff on cars, but I might go for a 13.1 magnet in a few months 🙂
You’ll deserve to “wear” that 13.1 proudly! 🙂
I love your Hokie outfit! On Friday I ran in a new pair of orange Oiselle shorts and a maroon VT shirt 🙂 Yesterday’s game was a tough one. I really wanted to win (duh) but I honestly don’t feel like we embarrassed ourselves. The defense looked awesome. Offense and special teams looked weak, but I felt like Logan Thomas had a decent game. I saw Hokie fans screaming for his head on social media after the game, but he made some great throws under pressure. He just didn’t have anyone on the receiving end. He definitely looked better than last season. Edmunds and Sam Rogers both looked promising. I’m done analyzing the game, now. 🙂
I’m glad to hear you’ve been feeling good on your runs lately! I’ve been having a bit of a tough time, but hoping for a turnaround soon! That lady with the jeep is someone I definitely wouldn’t mess with- an ultrarunner AND a member of the NRA?? Your neighbor is so sweet. I’ve heard about those rainbow loom bracelets.
My next race is the Hokie Half with you!! I have 14 on the schedule that day, which will be a personal distance record for me. Let’s hope for low humidity!
I agree, we played pretty well and our defense looked great! I heard the announcers say that VT just might be the toughest defense that Alabama would face all season. That made me feel pretty good that Bud is getting our defense back to where it used to be. And yes, Logan needs some receivers!
Can’t wait for the Hokie Half!!! 🙂
sorry I am not a bug person 🙁 I love the honey stingers chews!! I usually have some in my purse too just in case I need a sugar fix while out running errands. I just tried the cola flavors ones this weekend and they were really good!!!! I have no stickers or magnets on my car 🙁 I should have 6 13.1 stickers on there, maybe one day I will buy them. I will definitely be buying a 26.2 sticker in October at the race expo. I know you already know that I will be running my very first full marathon in October!!! I am not familiar with the rainbow loom. I used to make lanyards back when I was little.
Yes, buy that 26.2 magnet and put it on your car with pride! 🙂
Love your VT running outfit!! I need to find those Nike VT shorts the next time I’m in Blacksburg. You’ll have to let me know how the Hokie Half goes. We’re running a local, 15-mile trail race that weekend, but I’d love to do it next year.
Volume Two carries the Nike shorts. You KNOW I’ll be writing up a Hokie Half Race Recap! 🙂
I wish I would’ve signed up for the Hokie Half now! I saw those bracelets featured on the news one morning but I’ve never seen them besides that – I do love your maroon & orange one!! 🙂 PS I think that bug is a velvet ant? Maybe my entomology class was useful after all!
Is it too late to sign up for the Hokie 5K? Maybe you could do it if you haven’t been training for the half.
I just google velvet ant images, and you’re right! This guy was huge! He was about as long and about half as big around as a bumble bee.
You Hokies fans are funny. We have family down in VA and 2 of them go to VT.
My next race is a 5k this Saturday 9/7.
We are nuts for our Hokies! 🙂
Good luck on your 5K, and be sure to have fun!!!
