I headed out for my run a little earlier than usual this morning in hopes of catching a magnificent sunrise. You know the saying, “Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.” Well, I figured with the winter storm warning we are under that we would have a beautiful sunrise. It was okay…
I always check the temperature before I head out to run, except for some reason this morning, I forgot. I didn’t realize that it was only 15° until I got home. Fortunately, because I was running so much earlier than usual, I wore two unlined nylon shells on top of my long sleeved shirt (I usually only wear one). Today my upper body was the perfect temperature, but my thighs got a little cold and about ten minutes into my run I realized should have worn a pair of capris under my running pants.
After my run I caught up on a lot of paperwork, trained a couple of clients, hit up the grocery store, trained another client, and came home to this…
Joseph decided to come home and weather out the storm with us (he lives about twenty minutes away); and while here, make his specialty, chocolate amaretto mousse.
While he made dessert, I made Tuscan tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner…
And then we had some of Joseph’s mousse for dessert! Not a particularly healthy dinner, but when it comes to snow storms, it seems to be an excuse for favorite comfort foods!
As I write this, we only have about an inch of snow on the deck, but it’s only been snowing for a couple of hours. Hopefully, we’re going to get the 9-12 inches of snow that is forecast before it ends.
I’ve watched our “pet” raccoon run across the deck twice. See his second set of tracks? Maybe some day I’ll share my raccoon stories with you…

Wow-that mousse looks great! So does the grilled cheese-my absolute favorite! Thanks for the great giveaway, too!

It’s delicious and very rich, so a little goes a long way! Joseph made enough to feed our entire neighborhood! 🙂
Oh that mousse looks great! Definitely the perfect weather for comfort foods. You made some good choices there.
We’ve got TONS of prints running through our backyard. Pretty sure most are squirrel, but I think there are some bunny and raccoon or possum prints.

The raccoon runs by our basement window and sometimes even stands on his hind legs with his paws on the window. One time he scared me silly because I was sitting right where he looked in. I screamed like a little girl!
Haha, that’s hysterical! I would have screamed!

Chocolate,,,yummmm. We have so many critters around here, but raccoons don’t usually show themselves. It’s a good thing, because my dog would probably go after it and lose the battle. We had 14 inches here today – got a good shoveling workout in!

The raccoons probably don’t show themselves because of your dogs! May I borrow them? 🙂
I measured 12 inches of snow after it rained on the snow for a while and packed it down. It’s turned back over to snow now… I got a good shoveling workout, too!
Wow, I hope my son learns how to cook when he is older 🙂 We probably got a foot of snow in Alexandria! How much did you get??

I measured after it had turned over to sleet/rain and packed down the snow, and we had 12 inches. I’m guessing we got 14-15 originally. It’s snowing right now!
I love grilled cheese with tomato soup on a cold day! Yours is a lot more grown-up looking than my version, though 🙂

I make “gourmet” grilled cheese sandwiches with Provolone, Mozzarella, and American cheeses on freshly sliced French bread. Yum!
That looks like the perfect dinner (after a long run!). I love grilled cheese and tomato soup and yours looks out of this world! The mousse? Icing on the cake!

We don’t have grilled cheese sandwiches that often, but when we do, I do them right! I use all three: Provolone, American, and Mozzarella cheeses. Talk about calorie laden! Last night I made soup, but served salads on the side, which is the norm for us.
