It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello! While you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are participating in the linkup, too. This week the DC Trifecta chose Favorite Summer Drinks as the theme…..
“Summer is like a fresh glass of lemonade.
You want to drink it fast, but you want it to last forever.”
~ Susan Gale
Back in May, I thought I was being so smart when I posted Summer Fruits – Not What You’re Expecting and listed my five favorite fruity cocktails instead of summer fruits. Now it’s time to list my favorite summer drinks and since my May list included some of my very favorite summer drinks, a couple are gonna have to make a reappearance!
1. Water – Nothing tastes as good to me on a hot summer day as a cold glass of water. Plain. Simple. Water!
2. Soda – I know, I know – it’s awful that I love soda, but I blame it on my parents. My dad wouldn’t drink it because it wasn’t healthy, and we were only rarely allowed to have it. Because of that, when I got to college that’s all I wanted. Seriously, I chose soda over beer. What red-blooded college student does that? And speaking of beer, to this day, I can’t stand the taste of beer.
3. Wine Cooler – If Bill and I are eating outside on a hot summer evening, we often choose to make wine coolers over having a glass of wine. After filling the glass with crushed ice, I fill it about one quarter to one third full with wine, and then top it off with ginger ale. It turns wine into a very refreshing summery drink!
4. Margarita – The secret to a good margarita is top-shelf tequila. My two favorites are Tres Generaciones Añejo and Milagro; however, when the above picture was taken, I hadn’t discovered either and enjoyed Patron. I was recently introduced to Tres Agaves Organic Margarita Mix. In fact, in the spirit of research, I’m enjoying a margarita with this new mix as I type.
5. Peach and Coconut Rum Breeze – I came up with this drink at the beach a couple of summers ago. It’s easy to make and tastes so good! Whenever I make one, Bill and I are instantly taken back to the beach! It’s as simple as two parts Peach Mango Fuze Izze Sparkling Peach and one part coconut rum. You’ll feel an ocean breeze with the first sip! On a very sad note, we can no longer find the Peach Mango Fuze in any of our grocery stores, but Bill found Izze Sparkling Peach at Whole Foods, and it tastes quite good.
Don’t forget to stop by the other participating bloggers’ little corners of the internet to check out their favorite drinks!
- Questions:
- Do you drink soda? If so, what’s your favorite?
- If you drink alcohol, do you like cocktails or wine?
- Are you racing this weekend?
Oooh, your rum breeze drink sounds yummy. I love those drinks that transport you to somewhere tropical.

It is delicious! 🙂
Well, I don’t drink beer. Never did. In fact, I no longer drink although strawberry margaritas were a favorite in college.
Soda? Yuck! I did grow up drinking it, gave it up years ago, now it just tastes horrible to me.
We’ve all got our things. 🙂

Indeed we do! I find the peanut butter and chocolate candy combination to be the most disgusting thing on earth, yet most people love it.
My Dad’s ban on caffeine turned me into a Coca-Cola addict in college! Now I really only crave one when I’m REALLY tired.

With the humidity this summer I have really been enjoying my Gatorade!

I keep Gatorade on hand, but rarely drink it these days now that I’m not running longer distances. I used to have to drink it after spending four hours cutting the grass to help prevent cramping. Now I hand it out to the guys from our lawn service. 🙂
This Summer has been so hot, that I’ve mostly been drinking water! However, I would happily drink one of the last three drinks on your list any day of the week! 😉

Cheers! 😀
I’m not a huge fan of sweet summer drinks. After a hot run or bike, nothing tastes better than a beer to me!

I tried a few times, but just never developed a taste for beer… I have a huge sweet tooth so it’s no surprise that I love those girly cocktails! 😀
Your list is great. I’m not big into beer, either! Your wine cooler sounds yummy!!

Yummy, and easy to make! 🙂
No soda for me, and water is definitely my favorite drink. But I definitely always save room for a nice glass or wine and Lime-a-rita. I do like making spritzers with champagne too!

Does the Lime-a-rita taste like beer? I’ve seen them, but never tried one.
90% of what I drink is water. I do like a glass of wine a couple times a week, and a soda occasionally, but only with lots of ice…. which is hard to get in France !

Water is my main drink, too. The others are treats!
Those sound like yummy summer drinks! I like to make my wine spritzer with the peach Fresca, no calories 🙂

I will have to give that a try. Anything peach is a winner in my book! 🙂
I like both cocktails AND wine. I don’t really drink soda, just once in a while like one a month maybe, but I do like sparkling water – so that’s basically soda water!

There’s a peach flavored sparkling water that I’ve become a fan of – so refreshing! 🙂
