As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, you’ll find my choice of drinks changing from light summer cocktails to hardier beverages just in time for the holidays. Water of course, will always top my list, but these delicious beverages help make the holidays merrier.
Favorite holiday drinks:
1. Water – Good ole thirst quenching water will always top my list of favorite drinks any time of the year!
2. Hot Chocolate – As inviting as I find its wonderful aroma, I have never developed a taste for coffee. During the winter you’ll find me ordering hot chocolate if I meet a friend for “coffee.”
3. Southern Comfort Egg Nog – Even though this thick and creamy drink with a hint of vanilla is a holiday favorite of mine, it’s a major treat for me, and I only purchase it when we’re entertaining.
4. Mint Chocolate Coconut Milk – I discovered this beverage two years ago, and it’s become a huge favorite to sip on occasionally during the holidays. If you’ve read my blog for more than two seconds you know that I’m a fan of anything mint-chocolate. In fact, my friend Kelley happened to read that and surprised me with a carton of this delicious beverage for my birthday!
5. Toasted Almond – I discovered this drink in a bartending class I took my senior year in college. Funny thing was, I took the class (offered by a local bar where Bill and went on our first date) even though I really didn’t drink much. I saved the recipe, found it years later, and started making it.
Bonus: Baileys Irish Cream – It would never dawn on me to pour a Baileys during the summer, but after a holiday dinner you might find me reaching for a Baileys on the rocks with dessert.

Today I’m joining the DC Trifecta’s Friday Five Linkup with Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Today’s topic is Five Favorite Fall Drinks, but as you can see I took a few liberties and chose to substitute holiday for fall. Please stop by these DC area bloggers’ blogs to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are also participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- What are your favorite fall drinks?
- What’s your favorite holiday beverages?
- Are you racing this weekend?
Besides coffee, I do not like hot drinks, nor do I drink alcohol except wine or champagne…. I am too much of a light weight ! So my drink repertoire is very basic !
I’ve just never developed a taste for coffee even though I love smelling it brew when Bill makes it!
Have a great weekend!
I am all for coffee all the time! This weekend looks like a great time to pull out the hot chocolate though
I’m pretty calorie conscious with my drinks so I don’t drink as much hot chocolate as I’d like. Yet another reason water tops my list! 🙂
Have a great weekend!
That mint chocolate coconut milk sounds delicious. Is that only a holiday drink? I have never seen it. I’ll have to look for that one.
I saw it advertised in a magazine a couple of years ago, and found it at my local grocery store; and yes, it’s only available during the holidays.
your list sounds great EXCEPT for the egg nog. lol i just can’t do it 🙂
I can understand that egg nog could be one of those things that could seem nasty to some people. Southern Comfort is the only one I’ll drink – all the other brands taste nasty to me.
These look great! I want to try the Mint Chocolate Coconut Milk for sure!
Definitely try it! It’s so yummy!
I normally just stick to wine. Maybe hot chocolate with a little Bailey’s. This fall though, my husband started making me “Amaretto Sunsets” – Apple cider, 1 shot triple sec, and 3 shots amaretto. Amazing!
I’ll have to try an Amaretto Sunset. I feel the same way about amaretto as I feel about mint-chocolate! 😀
Mmmmmm that mint chocolate coconut milk sounds like a Thin Mint in a cup! Around the holidays I’m a sucker for eggnog and especially the eggnog and gingerbread coffee creamers my Coffee Mate
It’s the best!; you should give it a try! Egg nog and gingerbread sounds like a good flavor combo, too.
Southern Comfort eggnog! Oh yum! I haven’t had that in years!! Might have to sneak some this holiday season!!
I never really liked eggnog until my friend told me about SC. It’s the only one I’ll drink.
OK I’m curious – what’s in a Toasted Almond?
For my Toasted Almonds I fill a highball glass about half full with ice, add one shot Kahlúa, one shot Amaretto, and then fill the glass the rest of the way up with whole milk. The recipe calls for half and half, but I use whole milk these days. Let me know if you try it and how you like it!
I don’t change it up much in the winter, except I drink more red wine…
Red wine will help keep you warm during those cold winters! 🙂
I love Southern Comfort Eggnog! I fill my glass with half nog and half 1% milk to cut the calories. It still tastes excellent. Speaking of Baileys, in Nashville I wanted a dessert drink and the bartender made a drink that was equal parts Jack Daniels Honey and Baileys. Delicious! It had no name, so I’m calling it HoHo’s Honey.
That’s a great idea, Holly, and one I’m going to try. Thanks for the tip!
I love hot chocolate during the cold season! I never use to drink coffee prior to college, and I was much like you drinking/ordering hot chocolate going out to coffee places. I’ve been drinking Abuelita Hot Chocolate quite often these past days. I also like Champurado 😀
I had to Google champurado. I’d love to try it sometime!
