~ Runfessions ~
A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
I runfess: I think I may have finally figured out what is going on with my socks. As I mentioned last month, sometimes my socks slip down and gather around the middle of my foot during my run. What has perplexed me most, was that this even happens with my Feetures (affiliate link), yet doesn’t ever happen to any of my friends who wear the same socks.
If I eat or drink something with a little more sodium in it than I’m used to (restaurant food or a margarita), I retain fluids and my feet and hands get swollen. As a result, my socks slip right off of my foot. The morning after the Super Bowl after I’d eaten chips and dips that I don’t normally consume, I woke up feeling quite puffy. That morning my socks wouldn’t even stay up while walking around the gym training clients.
I runfess: Even though tell my clients to, “Listen to your body,” I still have days where it’s hard to practice what I preach. On Tuesday morning my right leg was feeling a little numb from something stupid I’d done the day before, yet I still met my friends for a run. Within a couple of miles I was struggling and fell behind. Instead of turning around and heading back to my car, I continued on to our turn-around point. As a result of my bad decision I overdid it, and had to walk much of the last half of my run.
I runfess: That the something stupid I mention in the above runfession had to do with me trying out a core exercise as I wrote out a client’s program. I wanted to try it first and wasn’t warmed up, nor expecting the sliders to move so quickly under my feet, turning my plank into an awkward stretch with way too much pressure on my lower back…
I runfess: I’ve decided not to wear my beautiful new Nike Pegasus (affiliate link) for running – just yet. My Brooks Glycerins (affiliate link) still have plenty of miles on them so I’m hanging on to them until they need to be retired, and then I’ll see how my Pegasus feel for running (they’re great so far for wearing around the house and when working).
I runfess: I got my hair cut last week and didn’t do the ponytail test when having it cut so now it’s too short to pull up and stay up without a million clips.
I runfess: Once again, I am going to shamelessly promote my new Race Linkup here on Runfessions. Our next installment goes live this coming Monday, the last Monday of the month. Won’t you join us by linking up a post with your race schedule so we can arrange meet-ups at races with other bloggers and our readers?
Ahhh yes, it feels good to get another set of runfessions off of my chest, especially since it’s has about four months since my last time in the runfessional.
- Questions:
- Runner girls, do you keep your hair long enough for a ponytail even though you prefer it shorter?
- What do you think about my hypothesis about my socks slipping?
- What are your runfessions?

Today I’m linking up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice for her monthly Runfessions linkup. Be sure to check out her blog and those of the other great bloggers linking up, too.
My runfession: The only running I’ve done has been in soccer training with my high school team. Oh, and that time I sprinted to the back of a Harris-Teeter store to see if they had fresh donuts.
HeeHee! 😉
I hate it when the layers of my hair won’t stay in the pony tail! Real struggles LOL. I also have not been great about practicing what i preach and may have skipped the rest day for a few weeks. Taking one Friday for sure.

Yes, we runners underestimate the importance of rest days for sure. Hope you rested well yesterday!
Oh boo to the hair. I’ve had that issue. Now when I get it cut, I make sure that the stylist cuts it only to ponytail length. Even if said ponytail is just a nub.

I always make sure it’s long enough for a decent ponytail, but this time I forgot… It’s really close so I should be good in no time!
I’ve had the SAME hair with a few color variations for my entire life. Once, just once cuz i’ll never do it again – I chopped my hair to my chin. It was awful and I’m never going back. 🙂 I’m surprised about your socks – especially when you’re swollen… you’d think they’d stay on better?? That would be super annoying. Love the scenery though from that picture!

Come to think of it, I’ve had pretty much this same style for about fifteen years, just never quite this short. Usually it’s at least a half inch longer – long enough for a decent ponytail!
Yes, the sock thing keeps me baffled…
I had that same hair issue two cuts ago and it is mucho no bueno. I was so paranoid the last time I went in, I stopped her and it was really still too long. I’ll make a note about the race linkup! Monday it is!

Thats sounds great! I look forward to having you join us for the linkup!
It’s funny you mention the ponytail test! I just got my hair colored and highlighted yesterday. While there, I decided to get some of the length cut off for the impending summer heat heading our way …but I told her that it absolutely HAD to be able to go up in a ponytail AND still look cute! 🙂 I mean, these things are important, right?
So glad you figured out what was going on with your socks. Those dang margaritas …can’t run with them, can’t live without ’em!

“Those dang margaritas… can’t run with them, can’t live without ’em!” You’re hilarious! 😀
I read this yesterday…but it must have been on my phone (and the commenting is a hassle for me unless i’m seated at my desk LOL). Anyways…the socks. I’ve noticed I have that issue if I’ve worn the socks previously (like for a short run and then tried to wear the socks again for a longer run). I think they get stretched just enough that they don’t fit as snug as they’re supposed to. And the hair….I have to change it up every couple of months. My last haircut (two months ago) was definitely too layered for a proper pony, but I still found a way to make it work LOL

I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds blog commenting from a phone to be a pain!
I almost always have to put clips in my hair in four places when I ponytail, but this time… I came home from today’s run/walk with huge hair because I didn’t pull it back and the humidity got the better of it! 😀
oh, the ponytail test, that is an important one! Love the ponytail! I am glad you figured out the sock mystery!

Yeah, that was a crazy mystery!
