After a whirl-wind weekend trip to visit my mom, we’re almost home (gotta love using my phone as a hotspot and working in the car). I’ve gotta say that driving across the Commonwealth of Virginia this time of year is a lovely sight! The redbuds and forsythia are popping, the sky is blue, and the air is warm. Spring is finally here!
Surprisingly, I didn’t take any of my running gear with me on my trip. We had several yard and garden projects we wanted to help Mom check off her list so I knew I’d be plenty busy doing manual labor and I’d be just fine skipping my Saturday run. Instead, I enjoyed sleeping in a little later than I have on a Saturday morning in a very long time!
Backing up to this past week’s workouts, I ran at zero dark thirty on Tuesday morning. Even though I didn’t run with my friends I saw them along the trail and that was a wonderful sight. It had been five weeks since my injury had come to a full blown run stopper on that very trail and I’d walked back to my car in pain and feeling quite dejected.
Driving home at dawn from my Tuesday morning run, I saw this almost entirely white skunk foraging in a neighbor’s yard (other than little black feet, he was white). He was very curious about my car, but as soon as I rolled down the window to take a picture, he ran for cover. Sorry for the crappy picture, but I had to share!
On Thursday I met my MRTT friends at the trail and was thrilled that since one of them is pregnant she is willing to slow her pace to my recovery pace. We had a great time getting to know each other better as we let our other friends run on ahead. We were pleasantly surprised to see a couple of them waiting for us to finish for a group picture!
Later in the day I headed over to our community center where there’s a grove of cherry trees in full bloom. If I’m too lazy to go see the cherry blossoms in DC, I’m at least going to walk around our neighborhood and enjoy them!
Friday morning we left our home in the pouring rain to go visit my mom. I sported my brand new specs rather than my contacts since I didn’t think I’d need sunglasses. It was also fun taking our new SUV on its first road trip and figuring out the best way to pack it. Our Escalade had second row captain’s chairs and a third row bench – after twelve years we had packing that beast down to an art! This SUV is smaller which has it’s advantages and disadvantages.
Of course with typical March weather (even though it was the last day of March), we drove from rain to sun and vice versa throughout the day.
Saturday in Southwestern Virginia was rather cool and blustery, but we got our outside projects completed nonetheless. And of course in typical fashion, the weather turned gorgeous for our drive home…

A pretty solid week. We’ve had a lot of rain lately and more to come. But at least it has melted the snow.
You look great in glasses BTW.
I always wear my contacts.

Yay for melting snow!
Thanks! I do prefer wearing my contacts, but it’s nice to have an option I like.
I am too lazy to go see the cherry blossoms downtown as well! I really don’t take advantage of all that the city has to offer

I am pathetic about taking advantage of DC’s many offerings!
I love your weekly wrap run-down graphic! We were lucky to have a beautiful spring weather weekend here and hopefully it continues. I really dislike rain especially when I want to run.

Thank you! I created the infographic from a free template I found online.
Sounds like you had a great weekend! I can’t wait to start gardening again. About a month out in MN so we know for SURE no more frost. 🙂

I’m always antsy waiting gardening season, too. We’re usually safe from the risk of frost by the end of April, but this year February was so warm that a lot of things started budding and blooming super early and then a couple of nights of hard freezes got them all.
Cherry blossoms are beautiful whether in your neighborhood or downtown DC ….I would do the same thing! I loved that pic of you side planking under the Cherry Blossom tree! Looks like you and I both had encounters with some wild critters this week ….your albino skunk and my little coon! lol

Should you be interested… Check out the video I posted on Instagram on October 9, 2016 of the raccoon walking across our deck and looking in the basement door at me. He’s adorable! 🙂
Spring is here in terms of the missing snow…but the temps need to hike upwards about 20-degrees. And, a little bit of sunshine would be appreciated. But, some of the bulbs are starting to bloom 😉

Last week was a bit gloomy here, but the sun in making a nice appearance this week. Hope you’re getting the same treatment!
A white skunk? How odd! It’s wonderful you were able to go visit your Mom. And why is it anytime you’ve been on a trip and head for home, it’s a beautiful day? We were in summer mode this weekend. Mid 80s both days. Ugh. I love your new glasses and your hair looks great in the planking pic. Thanks for linking, Deb!
Yes, it was the oddest looking skunk I’ve ever seen. Now I’m on the lookout for him every time I drive by.
You had a really busy week!
I’ve never seen a white skunk before – that’s pretty awesome! Earlier this week I saw a black squirrel. I hadn’t seen one in a long time so it shocked me, lol
We had weird weather here this week as well. It rained all day on Friday and it was gloomy, windy and cold on Saturday, but yet today was nice and sunny and 60 degrees, lol.

Here in Northern Virginia we have gray squirrels, but just across the Potomac River in Maryland they have black squirrels. Several years ago while coaching a group of Maryland based runners (in Maryland), we saw a black squirrel. I got all excited because I’d never seen one before. They thought I was nuts until I explained that ours were all gray. HaHa! The squirrels where I grew up on the other side of Virginia were reddish brown.
Sometimes it’s nice to go away and not have to worry about packing running gear. Especially if you had a great week leading up to the trip. Less to pack too.

You bring up an excellent point! 😀
Great weekly recap! Spring has definitely hit here in Alabama! In fact I think we’re going right into Summer.
I guess we need to enjoy whatever spring we get this year. February was so mild, but then March was quite cold and brought us our only snowstorm.
Have a great week!
What a great week you had! That white skunk is something else!
I did a 5K with little man on Friday night, to benefit the neighborhood schools. It was awesome.
Spring came, went and has changed to summer. It would be nice if we could have that fresh halfway weather for a little longer, but that’s the way it goes in Florida.
I don’t really do April Fool’s. I don’t really want to be pranked, so I just don’t do it to others. I’m a total Fun Burglar 🙂

Awww, I love that you run races with your son. You’re setting such a great example for him and giving yourselves a sport to enjoy together for years. I’ve run races with both of my sons and have such wonderful memories of running 20 miles with my oldest son during his 45-mile ultra and running with my youngest son in his very first half – and he and I were on the same team for Ragnar DC. That just might be you and Little Man in about fifteen years. 🙂
We are still waiting on spring. Next week!

It’s downright cold again here, too. The “feels like” temperature for 7 AM tomorrow morning (my run time) is supposed to be 28°. I’ve gotten used to the warmer weather, so I’m going to be freezing. I hope you see spring next week!
