Bluebird looks like many of us in Virginia felt during the first few days of this past week. With dreary skies and plenty of rain, even the sweetest of creatures said, “Enough already.”
Bummed that I couldn’t be outside gardening, I sneaked out long enough on Monday to capture this picture of our bleeding hearts dotted in rain drops.
Even though I don’t mind running in the rain, I chose to stay inside for my run on Tuesday. After a less than stellar run on my treadmill, I called it quits after four miles when I got a catch in my left glute. Even though foam rolling made my glute feel better, Thursday morning I chose to take it easy when I met my running friends at the trail (luckily nothing hurt during my run). We had three different paces going, but we hung out together for a couple of minutes to stretch at the end. BTW, can I just say how great it is to be finishing our 5:30 AM runs in the daylight!
Because I decided to run alone on Saturday, I headed out a little later than usual and got caught in a thirty minute rainstorm. I didn’t mind the rain too much (it kept me cool), but I wasn’t thrilled to hear several rumbles of very loud thunder. It stopped raining at my turnaround point and it got quite steamy on my return home.
On the blog this week, I’ll be talking about dealing with my most recent melanoma removal as we kick off Skin Cancer Awareness Month tomorrow. On Wednesday my monthly Wednesday Word linkup will go live at midnight as it does the first Wednesday of every month. Please join me and share your interpretation of the word imagination. And finally, on Saturday I’ll be joining Deborah and Coco for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date.
In case you missed it, on Monday I posted my monthly Race Linkup which goes live the last Monday of every month and stays up for four weeks – it’s not too late to join in on the fun. On Wednesday, I posted Obscure Words Runners Can Appreciate and on Friday I joined in on the runfessions fun with Runfessions Of A Distracted Blogger and Conflicted Runner.
Back to my workouts, other than not hitting my cross-training workouts (my poor bike is getting lonely), overall it was a pretty good week. Here’s how my workouts went down…
Fitness tools beyond the equipment in my gym that I used during the week included:
- Rodney Yee’s Complete Yoga For Beginners (affiliate link)
- Rodney Yee’s Intermediate Yoga (affiliate link)
- Rodney Yee’s Yoga Conditioning For Athletes (affiliate link)
- Tony Horton’s Ten Minute Trainer (affiliate link)
- Teeter Hang Ups Inversion (affiliate link)
Cameras used for blog photography include:
- GoPro Hero 4 (affiliate link)
- Canon Power Shot Elph (affiliate link)
- iPhone 6S (affiliate link)
- And the occasional picture taken by Bill
- Questions:
- Do you love or hate to run in the rain, or are you somewhere in between?
- Do you stretch after your runs? ~ I’m hit or miss, but I am consistent with my yoga.
- Did you race this weekend?
Have a great week!

Awwe, poor Bluebird 🙁 I totally get it though. We had rain most of this week and then yesterday was crazy hot, and today is back to overcast.
I actually don’t mind running in a little amount of rain, but not in a downpour – it’s too hard to see!

My first marathon was in heavy non-stop rain and I didn’t have on a hat or visor. I’m surprised I ever signed up for another race! LOL
Weeeellll….I don’t mind running in the rain, but it has been a cold rain lately and that is not my favorite. A warm rain is a welcome cool down on a hot run!
Bluebird is pretty! We don’t have them here. I was threatened by a few red-winged blackbirds this morning. They are quite aggressive this time of year, protecting their nests.

We’ve set up a bluebird trail in our back yard and love watching them. Bill captured this poor wet one last weekend. I’ve been chased by nesting birds on two different occasions – every morning for about a month in the spring when we lived in Utah and one week while at our beach house. I definitely know how you feel!
I agree with you! It’s so amazing to be able to see daylight so early in the mornings! And your landscaping.. so beautiful! Come do mine!!

Thank you! I wouldn’t know what would grow where you live! 😉
Gosh…how did I lose track of your recent posts? I’m gonna need to do some Deb Runs reading tonight. Rain….I don’t love it, but can tolerate if (and ONLY if) it happens while I’m already running AND the temps are over 70-degrees. Those are my standards 😉

I hope Momma N (isn’t that what you call her?) listens to your stipulations!
The bleeding hearts are simply beautiful! I would have welcomed a shower on my steamy runs this week. I’ve been caught out in violent lightning once so I’m extra skittish when I hear thunder. I’ll see if I can tap into my Imagination by Wednesday. Thanks for linking, Deb!
I hope you will join us – perhaps with an imaginative poem? 😉
I like when I m trying to get my run in before a storm hits! It motivates me to finish and I love how the sky looks I certainly wouldn’t mind hearing some thunder but only if I’m close to my finishing spot where my car is! Have a good week Deb!
Living on the edge! 😀
Hah, that is a perfect picture! We only got a few raindrops on Saturday – funny how different our weather can be! So wise to stop when your glute acted up! I am trying to get better about that.
Thanks for the reminder on Wednesday Word. I’ll see if work leaves me any time for imagining this week!

Isn’t that the best picture of bluebird? We looked out our kitchen window last week and the poor little dude looked so miserable.
I do hope you’ll be able to join us for Wednesday Word!
I do not mind the little showers on a run especially in the heat. I get freaked out by the thunder too though. We have had some crazy weather! Looking forward to the coffee date and Wednesday word this week

Looking forward to having you join us for Wednesday Word!
I like running in the rain when it’s warm. Cold rain not so much. The rain today wasn’t too bad today but it was the mud, lots & lots of mud!
I’m usually pretty good about stretching but I’m not motivating myself to do it today!

I’m not a fan of mud, especially during a race. Running Ragnar Trail WV two years ago gave me enough mud running adventures to last a lifetime… I’m looking forward to checking out your half recap!
While I don’t mind getting caught in the rain once I’ve already started a run, I will not begin a run if it’s raining. I know, weird. Your bleeding hearts are beautiful and the picture of the bluebird is fabulous! Your hubby is quite the photographer!
Hope that glute behaves and calms down! 🙂

So far so good with the glute. It must have been just an odd occurrence! And thank you, I’ll let my husband know you like bluebird’s picture! 🙂
Beautiful pink flowers! After moving to the Pacific Northwest, I’ve had to adjust and learn to embrace the rain. Once you don’t mind getting wet, running in the rain is no biggy!
I don’t mind running in the rain either… once I’m already wet. In fact, my marathon PR was set in the pouring rain. 😀
I too don’t mind much a light sprinkle or rain especially when it’s warm but Thunder is a game changer for me. I once got caught out in a lightning storm and I do not want to be there again!

I agree, rain is fine, but lightning is to be respected!
running in the rain… depends really. There’s the type of rain where it’s just sort of misting, that’s ok. The rain where it falls hard for like 10 minutes and then stops? that’s ok too. But the rain that is constant and blowing in all directions, poking me in my eyes and stinging my face? I hate that kind of rain. Unfortunately in the Netherlands we generally have the latter. I have run in the rain “back home” though – in New Mexico – and that rain is fabulous. Huge drops, lasts for 5 minutes, cools everything off… heaven.
Stretching. I’m terrible at stretching. I KNOW I should do it. I’m trying to do it more.
No race last weekend, well, sort of I guess… the Husband ran a marathon and I biked as support (it was a special race where you could have bike support OR you could run-bike-run in teams of two) Biking at 5 min per kilometer is not really a race, but I was very glad to support my guy.
Supporting your husband from your bike while he ran a marathon was so nice of you! I’m sure my husband would do the same for me (he’s a runner turned biker, I’m still a runner).
