Time To Rest
As I lay down on the table for my dermatologist to remove another basal cell from the back of my left knee, he asked what the chances were that he could convince me to stay inactive for two weeks while it healed. He knows me well…
I immediately spouted off what I’d done on Wednesday morning in anticipation of just that request – I’d run 5 miles, foam rolled, planked, ridden my stationary bike 5 miles, spent an hour lifting weights, and thrown in several sun salutations for good measure, and I’d trained two clients. When you bounce out of bed at 4:30 AM, you can get some serious stuff done. 😉
Running
On Sunday I ran in one of my favorite races of the year – I know I say that about several races, but seeing so many running friends gather for a race just makes my heart happy. My race recap is almost finished so please stop back by on Tuesday to read all about our shenanigans! Needless to say, I had a ton of fun even if I experienced a significant pain in my right glute/hamstring at mile 1 and had to slow down to finish the race.
I was nervous about heading out to run on Tuesday morning after the pain I’d experienced during Sunday’s race. Prepared to immediately stop and walk back home, I felt good enough to push through three miles. If I hadn’t be anticipating having to take two weeks off from running as of Wednesday due to my surgery, I probably wouldn’t have pushed to get in a run.
I ran again on Wednesday, feeling even better than on Tuesday and hope that in two weeks when I can run again, my nagging glute/hamming pain will be a thing of the past.
Biking
As I mentioned above, I rode my bike on Wednesday because I knew that I wouldn’t be able to get on it for the next two weeks.
I still haven’t set up my new a bike Garmin (affiliate link). Like I said last week, I need to get my IT guy on it!
Strength Training
I got in two really good strength training sessions on Monday and Wednesday, but then modified my Friday workout to be much easier – I lifted upper body only while sitting and using lighter weights. I’ll go back to normal weights tomorrow, but will continue to stick with upper body only until my two weeks are up.
Yoga
I had hoped to try some new yoga routines, but time wasn’t on my side so it was easier to do something I already knew. Perhaps this week I’ll give a new routine a try, but only if I find something that’s exclusive to the upper body.
Partying With Santa
We went to our first of several Christmas parties last night. It was family friendly and this jolly old chap was on hand to entertain the children.
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Running With a Limp and Back on the Bike
- Tuesday – The Perfect Christmas Tree for a Wide-Eyed Little Girl
Looking ahead to this coming week…
- Tuesday – I hope to have my Run With Santa 5K recapped (I know I said that last week, but I just didn’t get done. It’s almost finished for this week’s publication, though.)
- Thursday – I’ll have a best of blog rerun with Buddy the Elf visiting my gym.
In addition to the runs I mentioned above, here’s a complete run-down of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- What’s your party circuit look like this season?
- What’s your favorite race of the year?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s a wrap… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Holly at HoHo Runs and Wendy from Taking The Long Way Home for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
oh no sorry to hear that you had to have another mole removed. I know it’s tough for you to stay inactive while it heals. Hang in there friend!
Thanks, Deborah!
So sorry to hear about your basal cell. Best to get it taken care of now. 2 weeks without running will fly by! Think of everything you can get done in the time you would usually be running! I will look forward to reading your race report. Take care!
Since I normally run at 5 AM, I’ll probably be sleeping when I’d normally be running. LOL
Is 4:30 your normal or just because you had to front load the day? Good luck healing
We have one work party, but otherwise my circle doesn’t do holiday parties. I ran a 15K — it was cold, but fun.
I get up at 4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays to run and at 4:45 on Mondays and Fridays for a super early client. I sleep in on Wednesdays until 6 AM. 😉
I hope your race was lots of fun!
Oh no, sorry to hear about your situation. Hope everything heals quickly! I know how active you usually are, but two weeks (especially this time of year) will go quickly. Hang in there 😉
Thank you! The good news is that it’s not keeping me from doing most of my other normal stuff and my doctor let me schedule it after my race last weekend. 🙂
Sorry to hear about that basal cell lesion. Is this how it is, getting older? I saw the derm a few weeks ago and the one lesion she biopsied needs to come off. It’s not even precancerous but it’s got those cells that make them worry…I”m going back next week to get it removed. Hoping for the best for you.
Wendy, that’s how it is getting older when you abused your skin as a fair-skinned teenager and young adult… 🙁 I’m glad you got your skin checked. You’ve mentioned in the past that you needed to make an appointment.
That holiday run looked super fun…despite your pain! I would be the same way if I had to take time off but sounds like your hamstring can use the rest. And wait until you set up that bike Garmin!! I have the same one and it’s amazing.
The race was a ton of fun! Now you’ve got me wanting to set up my Garmin ASAP even though I can’t ride for another week.
The holidays are a good time to recover from the basil cell removal. The time will go by quickly! OK–your party Santa looks a little scary. 😉 I’m sorry hear about your glute/hammie. I’m frustrated by a new pain in my rear! Getting old is no fun. It feels like there’s always something and we just manage the somethings… Thanks for linking!
You’re right – it’s always something!
Santa just sat there. The children had to come to him or he didn’t interact with them, and most of the kids went down to the basement to play with games and do arts and crafts…
Yes, I did race sat & as always it was a ton of fun. One of my favorite races.
I’ll bet that you’ll feel better after that race, but sorry for the reason for it.
What can I say, we’re anti social. Just the party with my running friends last weekend . . .
I do love those races that we run every year, especially when everyone is dressed so festively!
