It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. Won’t you please join me? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that, gift wise, one of the biggest hits of Christmas was this sketch of Pablo that we commissioned for his humans. It was sketched by the 13-year-old daughter of one of my brother’s friends and it turned out beautifully. She is a very talented young lady and has a bright future ahead of her!
Pablo approved, but he refused to perk up his cute lopsided ears for the photo…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that one of my clients gave me this Christmas tree ornament which perfectly sums up 2020.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I lied on my Year of Running 2020 because I’d written it several weeks ago and just didn’t have it in me to rewrite the paragraph on new running gear. I did something totally not like me, and at the last minute for Christmas, asked for a replacement for my three-year-old Garmin which still works perfectly fine. The slightly newer version – Garmin Forerunner 235 (affiliate link) – has a heart rate monitor which is a great addition, but the real reason I wanted a new one? The color… I am crazy over this blue frost and I honestly didn’t need anything, so this is what I asked Bill to get me.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that one of my Christmas gifts was a new wok (affiliate link) that will work on my induction cooktop. For the last two years since getting the induction cooktop I haven’t been about to use my old and very much used wok that was a wedding gift from my maid of honor. I’ve already used the new wok once and our chicken stir fry was amazing. I’m not sure if it’s a different type of medal, the way I pre-seasoned the wok, or what, but the food had a delightful (almost smokey) flavor that I never experienced with the old wok. I can’t believe I forgot to take a picture before serving up the yummy chicken!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that for the last ten years the Cruisers have been passing around this plaque at our annual Christmas party gift exchange. The first recipient started a log on the back with 2010 and his name and each new recipient logs their name and year. Since Covid prevented us from having our party this year, last year’s proud owner dropped it by as a surprise gift for me.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I just received my new 2021 running log book (affiliate link). And, yes, even though my runs and rides are tracked by my Garmins and the data is automatically shared to Strava, I still like logging my workouts by pen. Let’s hope this year’s book has a lot more running and a lot less walking than my 2020 version. Here’s to a healthy and injury-free 2021!
And finally, if we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have any real or virtual races coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!
Happy New Year!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- • How do you log your workouts?
- • How did you celebrate NYE? Was it quieter than usual?
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Pablo really is the kind of the castle over there! What a life 🙂 Love the new watch. I am looking at some new ones as my Fenix is starting to lose it’s charge. I want one that can do tri races if I ever do another one. Wear it well! I track everything on Strava as my Garmin and my Peloton push to it.

Yes, Pablo is quite spoiled, but he’s such a good boy that he deserves it! 😀
For the first time (probably since childhood?) I fell asleep on the couch long before midnight. ((gasp!)) I woke up when I heard fireworks going off LOL I love that sketch of Pablo! Our youngest did an etched creation of Max a few years ago that turned out really nice. I’ll have to take a pic and send it to you. And, shoot, your mention of your new planner reminds me that I need to get one…at least now, they’re probably all half price LOL Happy New Year 😉
In recent years since I’ve started running NYD races, I’ve gone to bed before midnight. Last night we were asleep before 11 PM. I woke up surprised that fireworks at midnight hadn’t awoken me.
Yes, hopefully you can get a deal on your planner!
Woot new Garmin!!! I have the 235 as well, I like that it has “a lot” of features but doesn’t have the annoying ones like telling you that your training status is unproductive. I totally get the manual running log. I don’t track my runs on paper but I manually log them in an Excel file on my work computer, so my first “to do” at work is logging my data. Yes it’s a very practical way for me to track shoe mileage and treadmill vs outdoor running, but more than that I just love the ritual of typing in the data…in addition to having it on all my running apps, Instagraming it, and blogging about it endlessly.
Happy New Year and happy running!!!

I assumed if I got one any fancier, I wouldn’t use all the features. LOL
Wow! A 13-year-old girl did that picture of Pablo? She is very talented. What a wonderful gift idea!
I love the blue frost Garmin. That is so pretty. I just have a regular black one, but I am loving the heart rate monitor. I look at that more than my time, distance, or pace.
I don’t have any races – real or virtual – coming up, but our state’s limit on outdoor gatherings goes from 50 people to 250 in January. I think I might look for a small trail race to sign up for.

Yes, and Pablo’s humans loved it!
I ran with my new Garmin this morning and loved the heart rate feature. My Fitbit also has a HR monitor, but it’s much easier to track with my Garmin while running.
There was a live race in our town today, but I don’t know how they pulled it off when in mid-December our governor said there couldn’t be any gatherings of more than ten, either inside or out… I ran a different 5K (virtually) and I’m glad I did because the winner of the women’s 60-69 age group ran a 6:37 average pace. Yes, you read that correctly!
That sketch is amazing, and you turned it into a fantastic gift. LOL on that 2020 ornament. It is a year to remember — or forget! That Cruiser’s plaque is pretty funny.
Happy New Year!
Yes, I thought she did an amazing job! Happy New Year to you as well!
I keep getting new to me Garmins because I have a friend who keeps upgrading LOL. He finally gave me one that’s just too complicated, so I save it to track when I run ultras (and I still wear my other one to actually see information other than distance – at least as long as the battery lasts.) I need Garmin to come out with a simple watch with a super battery.

Lucky, you on the gifted Garmins! Yes, I think a lot of people would love simpler Garmins with a longer battery life.
Wowwww, that is some amazing talent! That sketch is beautiful!
That ornament is definitely the perfect summary for 2020, hahaha.
I was thrilled with the sketch when she sent it. I don’t think she could have captured Pablo any better.
Pablo’s sketch came out amazing!
LOL at your Garmin purchase. I will runfess that I almost never get the colors I want because they’re usually just too expensive. Like that rose gold Garmin that I don’t need but have drooled over a few times.
Love the plaque — so cute! Happy New Year, Debbie!
OMG, Judy, when I looked up my Garmin again on Amazon so I could link it to this post it had gone up $125 from the price Bill paid for it. The black one was still the same price, but I guess because they were almost sold out of blue frost they assumed people would pay the price (there were only four in frost left when he ordered mine).
That sketch of Pablo is absolutely beautiful! She sure does have talent, especially at such a young age!
It sounds like you had a fabulous holiday season. Our NYE was low-key, as it has been for the past few years. Just a nice dinner and good wine at home, and this time we had all of our kids home during the day, so that was a nice treat.
Happy new year to you!

Thank you, we were thrilled with the job she did on Pablo’s sketch!
Happy New Year, Linda!
Happy New Year! I have used Logbooks in the past but lately I’ve been using Google Sheets to track my workouts. I am big on using a planner though as I agree there’s nothing like pen and paper! Love the ornament, I really want to buy one as a keepsake! And that is such a beautiful portrait!
