Last Monday on the blog, my friend Beth and I talked about her clean eating plan, and I mentioned to that I would be joining her for a five-day challenge starting soon. The time has come, and that day is today.
To me, clean eating isn’t a fad diet, it’s eating fresh and whole foods, it’s shopping the perimeter of the grocery store, and it involves making flavorful foods with natural ingredients, and without opening prepackage bags and boxes that have a two-year shelf life.
It’s safe to say that when Bill and spend time at the beach house we eat very clean. With the exception of cereal for breakfast, our meals consist of a salad, freshly roasted vegetables, and grilled fish, chicken, or occasionally steak. Other than our 5 PM (and 6 PM, and…) cocktails, we do pretty well without even trying. We think the beach screams for fresh food and couldn’t imagine eating anything else.
Once I wrap my mind around getting back on track and straightening things out, I become very conscious about making good choices. This week with Beth’s five-day clean eating challenge, I hope to get right back on track.
My motto is to try to eat well most of the time so I can enjoy less than healthy foods some of the time. In fact one of those times is coming up on April 6. I will be serving hotdogs (possibly America’s most non-clean food) for dinner on the National’s opening day. I plan to get on track quickly so I can enjoy a guilt free hotdog!

I can’t wait to break the grill out-my favorite way to eat the veggies!

Yummm……..
Nothing is better than a burger off the grill, but we usually use ground turkey to make them. I’ve been doing clean eating for a couple of weeks now and managing pretty well. I’m totally indulging on Saturday though because we’ll be ruck marching the entire Boston Marathon route again for Carry The Fallen. I’m going to eat whatever I want that day! 26.2 miles earns me that one day.

When running marathons, that was always my rule – after the race I could eat whatever I wanted. Sadly, I was rarely hungry after a marathon.
How many pounds will you have in your pack? Hope you recap your march!
I’m hoping I’ll be able to carry 4 bricks (roughly 18 lb) plus whatever supplies I pack (extra socks, foot care kit, sneakers, water bladder, etc) All total it’s generally around 25 lb with a full water bladder. I’ll definitely do another recap. 🙂

It’s asparagus for me, but I do enjoy a good Brussels sprout.
I eat clean about 80% of the time too. I’m hoping to increase that by 10-15% but it won’t ever be 100% because cookies exist… 🙂

Cookies fresh out of the oven are one of life’s biggest joys (and temptations)! 🙂
I’ve been on a grilled chicken kick this past week. I can’t seem to ever get sick of them either.. I also LOVE grilled zucchini.
I’m pretty much a fan of any grilled veggies. I serve most of our veggies either in a salad or grilled/roasted. So good!
Hope it’s going well! I agree- in summer it is a lot easier to eat healthier with the abundance of fresh produce, the warm weather, and not craving comfort food as much as the colder months.
My favourite veggies are radishes and garden cucumbers!
