Apparently Stalking the Weather isn’t Just for Runners
I became more and more obsessed with stalking the weather for this morning’s Bike NY Five Boro Bike Tour as the week wore on. Here’s a summary of my findings…
- Wednesday – Morning low of 55° with a high of 56° and 70% chance of rain
- Thursday – Morning low of 62° with a high of 68° and 70% chance of showers
- Friday – Morning low of 56° with a high of 56° and rain
- Saturday – Morning low of 56° with a high of 57° and rain
I don’t ride in the rain or the cold; but I’m a girl who loves adventure, and I’m chalking today’s ride up as an adventure that will get me out of my comfort zone. It’s going to be all about getting out there and having fun with my friends as we ride through the closed streets of NYC and Central Park. And perhaps, just perhaps, the weather forecast is completely wrong and it will clear off!
Checking off the Punch List Items
On Thursday, our contractor stopped back by to complete the final items on our punch list for our master bath remodel. Thankfully, the hot and cold water is no long reversed in our shower. We were displaced from our master suite for seven weeks, but I’m thrilled that this remodel is behind us and we no longer have a toilet setting in our bedroom. 😉 I still have to do the finishing touches by finding a couple of orchids for the tub and some art for the walls, but that’s the fun stuff!
Guess Why I Need Fake Trumpets
Also on Thursday, I swung by the Party Depot to pick up two trumpets. Wanna guess what we’re going to do with them? Check out my Instagram later today and you’ll see!
More Time to Read
Blogging friends, did you notice that I hit up your blogs with lots of comments again yesterday morning? I took full advantage of being stuck in the car on the drive to New Jersey. Recently, long car rides seem to be the only down time I have and it’s a great time to play catch up!
Celebrating Cinco de Cuatro
In keeping with the Bluth family in Arrested Development, last night we celebrated Cinco de Cuatro.
Our group of runner friends turned bikers met at our hotel in Linden, New Jersey and then walked next door to Chevy’s. Since it was the eve of Cinco de Mayo, it only seemed appropriate to celebrate Cuatro de Mayo; or Cinco de Cuatro as I prefer. I’m always up for Mexican food and a margarita, but would never consider eating that prior to running a race. Perhaps this biking thing isn’t so bad after all.
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
After last week’s discomfort from sitting in the car too long on both Friday evening and Sunday, I recovered just fine and had three solid runs without any pain. In fact, with all three runs I had paces in the mid to upper nines and felt great.
Biking
On Wednesday I took advantage of a hole in the middle of my day and headed out for a 25-mile solo ride. Zephyr, my relatively new Salsa, rides great and I love that it can handle gravel on the parallel horse trail whenever I need to jump on it.
While riding, I started thinking about what I’d do if I got a flat. I knew that I had a spare tube in my pack, but didn’t know if I had a CO2 cartridge. Shortly, after that thought popped in my head, I came upon a rider with his bike turned upside down on the trail. As I slowed to a stop to see if I could help, he asked if I had a spare CO2 cartridge. I checked and didn’t, but just at about that time we heard a pop, and his tube had inflated.
Flat tires – something that doesn’t happen when running… Twisted ankles, yes, but flat tires, no…
Another consideration to keep in mind when riding, what to do with your bike if you have to stop and use the restroom. Fortunately, with this oversized, single-person restroom, I didn’t have to worry about a thing.
Strength Training
Three workouts out of my goal of three completed!
Yoga
I’m still doing my tried and true half-hour routines that I can fit easily into my day. One of these days I really do intend to try Five Parks Yoga or another online yoga class. I also need to put Yoga for Runners back into my routine and add a Yoga for Bikers routine.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
Unfortunately, my Runfessions post didn’t get finished so it’s going to have to hang on for another month.
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- How early do you start stalking the weather before outdoor events?
- Bikers, would you be able to fix your tire if it went flat while on a ride?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

Well, I sure hope the weather down there is a whole lot nicer than the weather up here. And if not, then you still had fun with your friends (friends make bad weather better, right?).
It was supposed to dry out this afternoon, but now it’s raining again. 🙁
Because of the dogs, I’m always stalking the weather! The radar just about an hour ago said the whole afternoon would be clear. It started raining not long after that.
Nah, the weather was crappy, but we made the most of it and had a great time! And you’re 100% correct, crappy weather is much more tolerable with friends.
I hope the weather cooperated for the ride and that you had a good time. I do love that my stomach is not very picky about cycling — but I do get starving on long rides! LOL on that punchlist photo. I think the toilet needs to be relocated. 🙂
The weather did not cooperate, but we still managed to have a great time! Fortunately, the photo was taken mid-remodel and we’ve had the toilet in the bathroom for several weeks. 😉
I’d have to phone the hubby for a pick-up if I had ANY issues with tires or tubes while riding. I have NO clue how anything works because I have hardly any experience riding. Lame, huh! My dad’s birthday is Cuarto de Mayo, but we’re celebrating later today (he and mi madre were out of town yesterday). Thanks for joining us on the WRD!
I need to learn how to change my tire in case I get a flat when I’m riding alone; otherwise, I might have to push my bike home.
I thought only runners stalked the weather. I never thought about bikers. I hope to do more bike rides with Bill this spring. We got ours tuned up and they are ready to go, but so far, we have just done some very short rides. Glad to read that your runs are all pain-free.

Oh yes, when you plan to be outside riding for several hours, you want decent weather and stalk the forecast just like a runner. 😀
I need to hear more about this biking adventure sounds like fun. I am also not a fan of biking in the rain but I have had that happen for a few tri races. I am always so scared on the bike and wet roads. Thanks for linking up!

Stay tuned for the recap. You might want to do the ride sometime!
Good job on your workouts. Way to get out on your bike! I need to get mine out and all tuned up and ready to ride for the season.
Thanks! Getting out there on the first ride of the season is the toughest!
I love your bike; she’s a beauty! I have to admit that while I always have my huge lock chain and bike repair kit with me (locking in case I have to go to the bathroom) I wouldn’t have a clue how to fix a flat. 🙁 It’s something I’ve been meaning to learn, but have rarely ever had one. That said, I’ll probably get once next week as I’ve likely just jinxed myself!
Biking definitely has advantages as far as what you can eat and drink beforehand 🙂
As far as the weather goes – I’m stalking for about a week. Any sooner and it’s anyones guess really!
No racing for me, but we did do a longish ride yesterday which was nice. The weather wasn’t too horrible though a lot of headwind. Glad I had gloves on as well…
Thanks, Renee! I’m always pleasantly surprised by how what I eat doesn’t bother when I ride.
So in other words your bike had a potty break too. LOL
Sorry about the weather — it was truly atrocious.
Had a Cinco de Star Wars race Saturday. Recap coming. It was fun

The way I look at it, the weather could have been worse – there could have been electrical storms!
Glad to hear your runs are pain free and going well! It’s funny how much more I stalk the weather now than the winter…cold is cold, but spring can be all over the place 🙂
Hope the biked ride went well!
HaHa! I think I stalk the weather equally all year long. Perhaps it’s the farm girl in me. 😉
For a race I start stalking the weather at least in advance. I hope that by doing this, if it is supposed to rain, it will no longer rain. 🙂
I also check it on a daily basis so I know what the weather will be like in the morning so I can prepare for my run.

I always check the weather in the morning before heading out and I actually log the temperature and humidity in my workout log.
Nice bike!! I can’t wait to get back out on my bike. I just got shoes for it, so now I’m practically a “real” cyclist! At least I’ll look all skilled now that I got a new jersey for Christmas too. Styling! 🙂

Oh yes, you’re stylin’ now! I got a new jersey at the NY ride which I can’t wait to wear!
