My Kind of Day

So this is how my Monday went down:

  • 5-mile run ✓
  • 1-hour of strength training ✓
  • 30-minutes Yoga for Flexibility ✓
  • 15-mile bike ride ✓

I was in heaven!

For various reasons, several of my Monday clients rescheduled to another day and I ended up only working three hours. I took advantage of not having a 6 AM client and headed out for a run around 5:15. I stuck to my usual strength training schedule and lifted even though I’d just run. Later, with a little time to kill between clients, I did one of my yoga routines and after Bill got home from work, we went for a bike ride.

By contrast, Tuesday’s calendar was chocked full of clients and other than my plank, I didn’t do any exercise of my own. I still managed to get in over 13,000 steps because working with my clients keeps me moving.

Spur of the Moment Trip to the Farm

On Thursday evening while looking at our upcoming busy spring calendars, we decided very spur of the moment to take a trip to the farm to visit my mom. We left late-afternoon on Friday after I wrapped up training my last client. Bill can take calls while on the road, but unless I take my clients with me, I can’t work remotely. 😉

Time to Read

As with our last three trips to the farm, we drove in heavy rain most of the way there. Driving on I-81 in the rain with all the tractor trailers spraying even more water on the windshield isn’t for sissies so I left all the driving to Bill. Blogger friends, if you noticed that I was hitting up your blogs with lots of comments, it was because I was keeping my head low and reading to avoid my tendency to back-seat-drive. Bill was thankful you kept me occupied!

Fishing at the Ole Watering Hole

Even though Mom keeps fresh water in the garage for Callie and Hobbes, they both prefer to drink from the pond. I caught Hobbes surveying his kingdom between sips of delicious pond water.

At one point Hobbes became mesmerized by something in the water. There’s a lone giant goldfish, who against all odds, as a tiny fish survived being eaten by the sneaky pond snake who ate all of the other goldfish. Shortly after I took this picture, the goldfish surfaced and spent much of the day hanging out in plants in the middle of the pond. For the record, the snake is an unwelcomed guest to the pond.

Later in the day, Bill captured this great picture of Callie enjoying a drink.

The Little Dogwood that Could

While Mom and I were checking out the various blooming trees and bushes scattered throughout her yard, she told me the story behind this particular dogwood. Years ago, my dad transplanted this tree as a tiny sapping from the woods beside their house (their property) into their yard. It started out scrawny, but had the attitude of a surviver and today it’s as tall as their house.

And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…

I got in two solid runs during the week; and even though I had my running gear packed and we woke to 49° and sunny on Saturday morning – a perfect day for a relaxing country roads run – I chose to skip my much anticipated run. Sitting in the car for six hours the evening before had caused the sciatic nerves in both legs to complain loudly and despite waking up feeling fine, I thought it best to let my body continue to recover without pounding my spine during a run.

The fact that on Thursday my uncle had seen a 300-pound black bear crossing the road within sight of my mom’s house played both in me being grateful and bummed that I was skipping my run…

After a lot of big talk for weeks, I finally got outside on my bike. I’d only ridden my new Salsa a few times before the cold weather hit last fall so I pretty much had to relearn how to change gears all over again (the levers are very different than my old bike). I also wanted more practice clipping in and out before our Bike NY Five Boro Bike Tour next weekend.

Strength Training

Three workouts out of my goal of three completed!

Three routines out of my goal of four completed.

It’s on the Blog

In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…

In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…

  • Questions:
  • What would you include in your perfect workout day?
  • Have you ever had to skip a run you were really looking forward to due to wildlife sightings or knowing in your gut that for your health, you’d be better off skipping the run? ~ Years ago, Bill and I skipped a hike in the Grand Tetons due to recent grizzly bear sightings.
  • Did you race this weekend?

And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
