Unfortunately, WeatherBug was Accurate
Remember last week when I talked about stalking the weather for our Bike NY Five Boro Bike Tour? I learned that stalking doesn’t necessarily bring good luck for perfect weather, and for once, WeatherBug was pretty spot on with its forecast of a rainy 58° day. The wind was just an added bonus that I hadn’t paid much attention to over the course of the week leading up to the ride.
Briefly Introducing Team TrumpetHeads
I hope to have a full recap up sometime later this week so I won’t go into any more details of the ride other than to say we had a lot of fun despite the less than desirable weather. After about twelve years of seeing pictures of our Maryland running friends wearing trumpets on their helmets and laughing at their silliness, Bill and I proudly donned trumpeted helmets and joined Team Trumpet Heads!
Reuniting with Mr. Miami
Fast forward to yesterday and as I walked out of the grocery store and just happened to bump into my good friend Craig who had just arrived in town after wintering in Miami. He was lean and buff and looked as if he’d just downed three raw eggs prior to pounding out fifty pushups right there on the sidewalk in front of the store. I admire disciplined people like that who would never consider eating a cupcake for breakfast. One can have goals…
Time to Stalk the Weather for Saturday’s DC Bike Ride
As of now, Saturday’s weather for the DC Bike Ride 20-mile tour is supposed to be sunny and warm. If you’re in the area and would like to join us, we have several Cruisers riding. Imagine how much fun it will be riding along closed streets as we cruise past the beautiful monuments in our Nation’s Capital!
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
On Monday, after driving home from NJ where we stayed for our Five Boro Bike Tour, Bill hit the trail on his bike while I ran. He headed out quite a bit earlier than I did and caught up with me after I’d turned to run home. At first my legs felt like lead from the previous day’s 44-mile ride, but they quickly loosened up and I felt pretty good.
Thursday’s run was solo and at zero dark thirty, but on Saturday I reunited with my wonderful running friends who I’ve missed so much! I ran the fastest since my injury (a 9:27 average pace for 6+ miles), and even at that, my friends slowed down for me. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m at a point in my life where my pace is slowing and at 10-20 years younger than me, they’re still getting faster. Believe me, it doesn’t go unnoticed when they adjust their pace for me. ♥♥♥
Biking
I only fit in one ride this past week and it was Sunday’s ride in NYC. Zephyr, my relatively new Salsa, did great and I’m so happy I upgraded last fall. Here’s another teaser picture from our ride which was taken as we approached the Queensboro Bridge. Bill had his GoPro (affiliate link) mounted to the front of his bike and captured some fantastic moments which I can’t wait to share in my recap!
Strength Training
Three workouts out of my goal of three completed!
Yoga
I’m hoping one day for my form to be as good as Pablo’s, but for now I’ll just keep plugging along. Pablo’s form in downward facing dog is spectacular even though in this picture he’s demonstrating puppy pose. He’s on his way over to visit as I type, and I can’t wait to spend Mother’s Day afternoon with him and his humans. And yes, Pablo has his own Instagram.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
Coming up this week, I’m really hoping to recap Sunday’s Five Boro Bike Tour. I may need to break it down into two posts – stay tuned.
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- What was your favorite workout of this past week?
- How’s your downward facing dog?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
Nice to see you back running with your friends again! Looking forward to hearing more about your bike ride adventure. Thanks for linking up

As you know from previous injuries, it’s so nice to get back with the group! 😀
I actually did a lot of downward dogs this week, and a lot of chatarunga holds (my arms/pecs were on fire the next day). I think my form is good 😉 Thanks for linking!!
Don’t you just love the feeling of well worked muscles?
You and I are at the same point in our running lives, I think. I have speedy younger friends too. I used to be able to keep up with them, but no more. I guess we just should be glad that we are out there enjoying ourselves, rather than lamenting the lost speed.
Can’t wait to read about your Trumpethead ride. It looks like a lot of fun!

You’re right, but it’s hard not feeling a little sorry for myself. 😉
The helmets with the trumpets are hilarious!! Bummer about the weather.
I did this runs this week and enjoyed all of them. I went back to The Arboretum and ran on hills again. Hopefully soon it will be easier. I need to run 8 miles on Saturday.

I enjoy hill repeats. They’re such a great workout.
Sounds like a great week! The trumpet helmets are so fun and I love all of your workout selfies.
Thanks, Betsy!
Oh, so sorry about the weather in NYC but it looks like you had a great time (and got some great pics!) despite the rain and wind. I so wish I could get myself and my bike to DC this weekend!! I’ve never heard of any of these bike tours so clearly I need to do some serious Googling for next year.
Can’t wait for the recap of the ride and so happy you were able to run your fastest pace since the injury…regardless of who had to slow down 🙂
Thanks, Allie! Meet us in NY next year!
No racing for me. Sunday’s weather was definitely not good & a good thing we didn’t bring the dogs with us to our family, although my mom said she missed seeing them. The day was long & difficult enough without having to drag unwilling dogs out into cold rain multiple times!
That is truly sweet that the women you run with adjust their pace to meet yours.
Awww, I hope your mom had a nice Mother’s Day! Mine was made extra special with a visit from Pablo!
Runner friends are so considerate!
Pablo is the sweetest!
Gah, I can’t believe you guys did riding in the rain like that! I would have been so freaked out by slipping and falling! I’m a total wuss when it comes to that, though!
I kind of want to have a cupcake for breakfast now.

HaHa! You only live once, so have a cupcake for breakfast sometime!
What a funky little event with the trumpet heads, I love it 🙂
Glad you were reunited with your running friends, that’s the best motivation!
The Trumpet Heads were but 10 of about 30,000 bikers cruising the streets of NYC. Actually, a lot of people bailed because of the rain so there were probably a lot less than 30,000 that showed up. It really was a fun event!
I thought about you when I read about the weather conditions. Many including my friend bailed.
I was in sunny Florida.
Now I’m back in the cold rainy NE.
Our friends told us that it was a lot less crowded than in past years so they guessed that a lot of people didn’t show up because of the rain.
I hope you enjoyed sunny Florida! Will this rain ever move out?

I am so far behind. Sorry you had such a wet day
Just read an interview with an actor who has never had fried food. Cupcakes and fried food (occasionally) make life worth living

Indeed! The funny thing is, I actually caught my friend eating a cupcake he’d just purchased from girls at a bake sale in front of the supermarket. He was so embarrassed because it was about 9 AM. He reads my blog and I thought he’d get a kick out of what I said about him. 😉
If you’re going to cheat, cheat deliciously!
