After arriving home from our epic Chicago trip late Monday afternoon, I played catch-up all week until we hit the road super-early yesterday morning for a quick overnight visit to see my mom. Sadly, between a busy work schedule and a couple of inconveniently scattered personal appointments, I only fit one run into my week. I didn’t really plan to run while at Mom’s house, but brought my running clothes just in case…

This morning while brushing my teeth in the bathroom of my childhood home, I contemplated the saying we runners have which goes something like, “The only run you’ll regret is the one you skip.” As I stood there in the quiet house at 7:15 AM, I wondered if I’d have time to go out for a quick run, shower, do beauty duty, and still be available to visit with my mom when she got up. With such a whirlwind trip I didn’t want to interrupt our time together with me being out on a run or tied up in the bathroom.

I wandered outside while still in my nightgown and was greeted to an unusually cool and rather crisp 62° June morning – it was perfect running weather. After letting Mom’s cats out of the garage, I stood on the driveway and soaked in the cool air. My antsy legs told me to put on my running clothes and shoes, but my brain though otherwise. Always a pleaser, I wanted to enjoy a relaxing morning with Mom and Bill, so my brain won out and I nixed my longing for a run.

Once Mom came into the kitchen, I listened as she reminisced about what she was doing sixty-four years ago at that time. Today would have been Mom and Dad‘s wedding anniversary, the fourth she’s celebrated alone since Dad died. Later, as Bill and I left the farm I grew up on, we stopped by the cemetery to wish the best dad a girl could have had a happy Father’s Day and a happy anniversary.

So the saying, “The only run you’ll regret is the one you skip,” didn’t play out for me this morning. There’ll be plenty of time for me to run this coming week, but I won’t have the opportunity to hang out again with Mom until I visit her in July.

And speaking of Father’s Day, I must give a quick shout out to Bill who didn’t mind driving much of Father’s Day so we could spend a quick weekend with Mom. Our sons are lucky because just like with my dad and me, Bill’s the best dad our sons could have had!

And since this is a weekly run-down of my workouts, here’s a more detailed look at how this past week went down…

Looking ahead to this week, I’ll be talking about something new Personal Fit Fitness is offering and I’m hoping to wrap up that little post I’ve been hinting about for a couple of weeks. In case you missed it, on Friday I posted a recap of our trip to Chicago Running, Eating, And Celebrating In Chicago.
