A Healthy and Happy New Year

As we look at 2022 in the rearview mirror and ring in 2023, I wish you a happy, healthy, and fit 2023!

Overview of the Week

Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…

Sunday

Walking: 5K
• Average pace: 14:20 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 93 feet
• Start time: 2:46 PM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 31° F (feels like 25° F) and sunny
• What I wore: capris, l/s shirt, fleece jacket, nylon shell, gloves, mittens, and ear warmer headband

For the first time since my husband’s and my first three years of marriage when we lived in Utah and Colorado, we celebrated Christmas with just the two of us. He had some sort of virus that got progressively worse as the week wore on and by Christmas Eve he felt completely miserable so we called off all Christmas day festivities, including dinner with family and friends. By Christmas afternoon I was feeling a little achy, but got outside for a walk.

Monday

Strength training: 15 minutes of core

Walking: 2 miles
• Average pace: 15:21 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 84 feet
• Start time: 2:22 PM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 31° F (feels like 26° F) and overcast
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, fleece jacket, nylon shell, gloves, mittens, and ear warmer headband

After waking up several times during the night with a headache, body aches, and a severe sore throat, I slept in. Once up, I felt somewhat better, but could tell that I didn’t have my usual energy, cutting both my strength training session and walk short.

Tuesday

Rest day

I stopped by my doctor’s walk-in sick clinic and tested negative for both flu and Covid.

Wednesday

Strength training: 1 hour of total body

I started feeling significantly better, but noticed that I still tired very easily.

Thursday

Rest day

Friday

Strength training: 1 hour

Balance and stretching: 45 minutes

Saturday

Running: 1.17 mile
• Average pace: 10:14 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 0 feet
• Start time: 8:49 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 63° F
• What I wore: shorts and jog bra

Walking: 5K
• Average pace: 14:19 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 0 feet
• Start time: 9:04 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 64° F
• What I wore: shorts and jog bra

Even though I was finally feeling significantly better, I kept my run to a mile and wrapped up my workout with a 2-mile walk inside out of the rain (you can thank me for putting on a tank for the picture). Having been sick, I didn’t want to overdo it the day before my first official ride on my new gravel bike!

Last Week’s Blog Posts

In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…

Questions:
  • •  What 2023 fitness goals have you set? ~ My goals are simply to maintain my current level of  fitness and do my best to avoid injuries.
  • • What was your favorite workout of the week? ~ I didn’t have a lot of workouts, but my Christmas afternoon walk was quite enjoyable and I chatted on the phone with both my mom and brother during my walk.
  • • Did you run in a New Year’s Eve or are you running in a New Year’s Day race? ~ I won’t be joining my friends for a New Year’s Day race this year. I initially didn’t register because of a family commitment, and when those plans changed, I’d already agreed to an afternoon bike ride with my husband and friends.

And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
